Just had a surgical biopsy today after a steriotactic biopsy

I am about one month new to this board and have truly appreciated the insights, support and love I see here.  I am just home from a surgical biopsy  (performed after a 6 month followed up for increased micro calcifications which necessitated a stereotactic biopsy which revealed LCIS)   After my surgery today, my surgeon telephoned by husband to report on my status (which was our agreed protocol).  Anyway, she apparently told my husband everything "looked" good and she didn't "feel" anything of concern.  My question is....is it actually possible for a surgeon to "see" that things looked good during a LCIS biopsy, which was really a microcalcifiation  biopsy, and with heterogeneously dense breasts, actually be able to "feel" anything during that type of surgery??  I do understand the need for positive reinforcement, but are these statements realistic?  I am told by my surgeon she may have the pathology reports in 4 days and was also told by the discharge folks that I would hear the results in 7-10 business days.

    Hi Selkie,

I hope for you that you are like me & nothing worse is found.

Honestly, I wouldn't put much stock in the looking or feeling good thing. What really matters is at the microscopic level. You would have to have a pretty big tumor for it to be very visible. The exception would probably be removal of something like a big benign fibroid that has a very characteristic appearance, but that also doesn't mean that fibroid can't have something worse around an edge somewhere.

Aren't you glad it is over with? Let us know what you find out.

Melissa, so nice to hear from you and YES, I am truly glad today is behind me!  I was surprised to hear my husband say my surgeon told him the "feeling" and "seeing" things.  It did make him feel better which I suppose has some value.

I thought all the anticipating was much worse than the reality. I have a slight dent if I raise my arm straight up. Other than that you'd never know she took a golf ball chunk out of smallish breast as my scar is in the bottom crease.

Melissa, That's where my scar is too!
