What is our prognosis, anyway?

Lisa, that is exactly how I feel.  I used to be the world's expert in trying to predict how things were going to pan out and suffered from chronic anxiety but now I take life very much one good (or bad) day at a time and no anxiety.

I read somewhere that there is not a single type of cancer where however bad the prognosis there hasn't been at least one person who has defied the odds and survived.  With breast cancer we know the treatment gives us a good shot so I try and live believing I will be one of those.

I'm wondering how often progression is seen in those of us with a Grade1 Stage IIIa diagnosis.  My onc won't discuss prognosis, altough he did initially when I saw him on my first consultation.  But everything was a blur back then.  Now, because I feel little lumpy and sore on my chest wall above the tram flap recon, I often wonder if these are nodes that could possibly be positive for cancer cell progression.  Everything causes me to worry now.

My greatest worry in my DX goes back to the nodes. Extra nodal extension in all 9 and lymph/vascular invasion. Those make me feel as if I am only a scan away from IV, or possibly already was from the get go. My petscan did not show any uptake other than the breast and lymph nodes. I know in my head this is a good thing, I just have to convince myself that all the treatment thrown at me has effectively destroyed any possible stray cells. I hate how tricky this whole thing is.

I don't think I really want to know the numbers, and prefer to go with what my BS and MO have said....this is beatable and treatable. They won't give me numbers, and I think I am better off not knowing.
