Chemo starts Thursday!!!!

Getting a little nervous about my first treatment on Thursday. =/ I am getting 6 rounds of the TCH and perjeta. The day after I have to go in for a shot of Neulasta. I have heard that the neulasta is painful and my doctor said he doesn't generally prescribe pain meds because they do not really help. What is your experience with this? Also, how soon after treatment will my hair start falling out?

    Hi Terri, 

    Your hair will start falling out around day 14 .  The neulasta shot is not painful if the nurse injects very slowly.  Most people have bone pain for a few days after the neulasta shot, but if you take Claritin or Zyrtec starting the night before the shot and for several days after, it will help.  They still dont know why it helps.  I had 6 rounds of TC and I did well.   My cancer center had chemo school which I attended before chemo.  It really helped a lot.

    I took Claritin and alieve for the bone pain associated with Neulasta and it worked for me.  I started taking it the morning of my shot and took it for a few days after.  It really decreased the bone pain.  The first chemo I did not take it and it was very uncomfortable for me.  The remaining chemos were tolerable with the Claritin and aleive.   I think hair falls out around day 14 but I used cold caps to keep my hair so I am not sure.

    Hi.  I had no problem with the Neulasta shot.  I HEAR younger women do.  I am 55.   You can bet I was scared to death...take the Claritin if they tell you to.   I am having 4 AC/4 Taxol.   I will be getting number 3 AC Thursday with you.  Drink a ton of water, go in for fluids if you feel really crappy.  Take Immodium if you get diarrhea.  Call me in the morning.  :)       I am trying to look at it as the cure, not torture but I don't always succeed   Hair started falling out about #2.  Cut it short and then go get shaved.  TEMPORARY
