March 2014 Surgery

Sandra-- thanks for checking in! I have been reading here and always thinking of all of you. I am doing ok, depending on the day
I started my IV abx three days before my surgery and right after my surgery I was herxing. Between the surgery and lyme it took me quite a while to start feeling a bit more like myself. I still get so tired, but that is probably my body trying to fight the lyme and detox it all. But BC-wise, incision is looking good but I want to TEAR these steri-strips off!!! BS said not to, that they should fall off sometime this week. Friday I have appt's with the RO and the Cancer Center's social worker who is going to give me some tips of dealing with both illnesses and maybe help me lower my expectations of myself. Tried it before but maybe a million times is the charm? hahaha!)
I am going back to work today. I clean houses so I'll see how much fun it is to vacuum. The woman I am cleaning for is one of my heroes. She had a BMX 2 years ago, and has MS. And two little kids. And a sense of humor that cracks me up every time. If I have to jump back into work, her house is the one I want to do!

tx to all!! Sitting in the hospital waiting to be called!!
-
Best wishes and prayers for the 3 brave sisters having surgery today! Our list keeps getting shorter and shorter and I can't believe I have just a little over a week left. Thank you to everyone that shares their stories. It definitely helps to put my mind at ease!!!! I was wondering if some of you ladies wouldn't mind sharing what it was you did the night before your surgeries.....Family dinner? Date night? Panic? lol......
-
Lovemytwinz, we kept it simple. Dinner, ice cream, and rented a couple of movies! Laying here watching the sun come up and waiting for the time to pass before I have to jump in the shower and head to the hospital. Waiting is the worst part and I think these last couple of hours are the hardest! Good luck to you next week.

VNA came yesterday to access me but had no supplies to change my
bandages. This was an issue when I had the lumpectomy/node removal so I
asked three nurses & the surgeon at the hospital this time for
bandages & they all said the nurse would have them. Nope. But she
will be back today with supplies!I have a Herceptin infusion scheduled for
tomorrow. I am thinking I will be able to go, hubby can drive me. I know
it will be tiring but my main concern is the discomfort around the
newly moved port. -
FootBall
ALL THE BEST TO YOU!

Hope all who have surgery today do well, and those from last week - hope you are hanging in! Those who go later this week, try not to be nervous!
-
Hi al!!!. Checking in....I'm down to 2drains, but proph side is giving me fits!!! It started doubling its output and is no longer clear. It has gotten cloudy and thick, but no odor. They aren't really sure what is up. Sent specimen Friday , now just waiting for results. Drain site in right has been sore from the beginning, little red on mound under incision, and sore but remember no narco!!! Basically ps said stop using your right arm . Period. TE's rubbing on my sternum...
Sorry, a little cranky today. I thought by now I would have these stupid drains out.
-
Checking in, I came home on Saturday, I was supposed to stay until Sunday but did well. I have 2 drains on my left side. I'm not in much pain just uncomfortable, my left side has a temporary implant and it is swollen. The PT gave me exercises to do 5 times a day. So much better being home though. Hope everyone is recovering well with no problems.
-
Hi Gram
yay home a day early. Hope your recovery is an easy one.
I came home Saturday too (after a bit of a glitch).
-
I am so sorry for being insensitive !!!!!
Congrats to all of those doing well!!! (Note a tad of jealousy/whoa is me's:)).
To those with hiccups...hang in there and do exactly what the MD says, it is for our own good!!
-
I hope everyone is doing well! I had my bilateral with expanders 1 week ago. I got 2 out of my 4 drains out today. That made me happy because they are a royal pain. I don't have all of the pathology reports back yet but my 3 sentinel nodes were negative for sure. I'll know more probably Wednesday or Thursday. Things are looking good. I have a sharp pain when I take deep breaths. The pain is on my left about an inch or 2 below my "breast". It feels like a lung issue but my surgeon didn't seem concerned. When I sleep, I have that elephant on the chest feeling. My incisions don't hurt at all. My entire chest is numb which is creepy. I have a couple of areas near my incisions where the skin is a darker pink. The surgeon said to keep an eye on those because it could be a blood flow issue. Other than that, all is good. I only take valium and codeine at night, and extra strength tylenol and keflex antibiotic during the day. Recovery has been much easier than I had imagined :-) Good luck to all of you!

Quick question for you knowledgible ladies if you don't mind.....
I am having a weird almost vibration feeling in my right breast (cancer side) when I breathe. My last chemo was Feb 13 and I go for my BMX tomorrow morning.
Anyone else experience this feeling or know what this is? One never knows what symptoms mean anymore after having gone thru cancer.
-
Footballnut, KLJ, and mcbeach I hope you three are doing well.
Cato and Linda we will be there with you next. I will catch the bus again in the morning. Lots of rest for everyone tonight.
I am recovering slowly but surely. My left flap is staying warm and looking healthy. I will have my first followup Wednesday morning and then I guess start planning how to fix my right breast.
Hugs to all.
-
Who else is coming with us on the Pink Bus tomorrow morning? Catoklyzmk is having a bilateral mastectomy and Linda505 is having a bilateral mastectomy and getting tissue expanders. We'll be with you, making sure everything goes ok, so you can relax. Let us know how you are when you get home.
-
I have IDC grade 1. My surgery is scheduled March 27th for BMX w/DIEP flap reconstruction.
Sandra4611 I live in San Antonio also.
I'm starting to get nervous about the surgery and recovery.
-
hello fellow bus mates !!!!
I did it. It is over. Not as bad as I had it worked up to be. I was more afraid of the SNB needle because my breast was so tender, but they put some topical on it and it really wasn't that bad. A little bee sting is all. My surgery went very well. I had some nausea the next morning from the anaesthetic , which was awful, but didn't last long. I have been home resting and being treated like a queen by my sister, husband and in laws. I am taking Percocet which helps so much. It just numbs the body, and relaxes everything. Thinking about you today footballnut. I trust all went well. Just waiting now for my biopsy results to come back. Fingers crossed, and prayers sent up.
Take care everyone.
Iwannaseeyoubebrave- take care of yourself and get well soon!! That's not fun.
-
hello everyone! I don't visit very often, but after 6 months of chemo my surgery is finally scheduled for March 31st so I thought I would check in and see what everyone's experiences were. I am having a mastectomy on the left with a SNB and removal of at least 3 nodes and then a reduction and lift on the right. No expanders or anything else at this time.
Glad to see so many doing so well!
-
Good luck to you warrior.
Glad you have finished your chemo. I got 2 months between chemo and BMX but did very well.
We will be here for you on March 31st.
-
Getting ready to leave for the hospital a little scared but glad to be finally getting this underway. Hope all goes well for you Catoklyzm.
I will let you all know how I am doing as soon as I can.
-
Good luck, Linda! My surgery day was excellent! I had a total of 5 people waiting for me. My surgery was 6 hours instead of 4 but for me, it seemed to last a minute. Apparently when I woke up I was happy, talkative, and hilarious :-) I keep hearing about the funny things I had said. This was me when I woke up.
-
surgery a day behind me!! Woo hoo!! Surgery was at 10 and I was home by 4. Apparently had a cocktail which included lots of morphine yesterday. Slept a lot but up today at 7 and puttering around. I was given percocets but haven't taken any. Pain is bearable. 3 drains - row on left side where breast and lymph nodes were removed and 1 on right side where implant was. Follow up with surgeon on April 2. Am hoping to hear that cancer gas not spread. I wish that this will be the end of it but already told that I am a candidate for chemo. I keep thinking that u can be a candidate for a job but that doesn't necessarily mean that ull get it. O well. Time will tell. Tx for the pink bus!! U have all made this so much more bearable!!
-
Yay Julie, sounds like you're progressing well!
It is a weird feeling on the chest of numbess, and now for me some itchiness. When VNA changed my bandages yesterday & pressed down I could kind of feel it but not really.
-
All the best Linda! Us March surgery gals are rocking it, gettin er done!!!!
-
A day behind you...what a good sentence to write huh FootBall?
-
Fayth
nice to hear from you! Hope your post op keeps going well!
-
Catoklyzmk all the best & positive thoughts are heading your way!
-
This is my first post, but I have been lurking specifically on this board. I am scheduled for surgery Tuesday, March 25th, UMX, SNB. I can not tell you how much it has helped reading your posts and seeing how well you are all doing. I've been reading, a LOT, and some of it just scares me so. Last night I had a rough night of sleep (rather no sleep) just thinking about all that is ahead. But I wanted to reach out and thank you all for your encouraging words, and your post-op and recovery stories, some of you even making it sound like a piece of cake. Juliecc, my gosh you look great! Wishing all of you the very best as we venture on this long journey ahead of us.
P.S. Does anyone now hate the color pink as much as I do???
-
I had SNB and BMX on March 11th - one week ago. SO glad it is behind me. I go to the MO today for path results. Best wishes to all who are waiting their turn.
-
We are all strong, courageous, and awesome! Much love to all of you
