Any Hummingbird Watchers Out There?

Yes, that is Blanche. Guess our pets are pretty important to us. My family had a giggle when I shared your picture of Teka with them. Don't think Teka is catching too many hummingbirds
-
Teka is our female maine coon cat.
Daughter chose the name "Teka" which means "angel of death" before I was Dx with BC.
She's more on the small side but dwarfs other cats.
Loves to play fetch but not a lap kitty.
But content being an indoor cat!

Oh, love that Nappin' Teka pic!!!

-
Oh thank you so much. Your pictures make me smile.

Thanks

just showed my son, (the birder since he was 2) the pics of all your hummers, he really enjoyed them. At our last house we had a hummer w a nest, he named her cinnamon, and we planted a bunch of hummingbird friendly plants for her. Watching baby hummers is so amazing!
thank you for sharing all your pics!
-
I would love to see a nest of baby hummers. ;o)
-
Teka, It is truly amazing, we have been lucky enough to observe it twice! (with nests near our home and able to view without disturbing them) The eggs are like tiny tiny jelly beans, and it is amazing to watch them get fed. Simply one of nature's wonders for sure!

How sweet is that

Sorry it took me so long to answer, but YES, it was really amazing! We live in Leucadia now and there are so many hummers here, as it used to be all plant nurseries. One day last year at springtime there must have been 30 hummers in front of our house feeding on those fuzzy purple flowers (forget their name!) Will try to get pics this year to share. They chase each other around. Hope all of you in So Cal survived the storm (so far, I think another wae may be coming)

Yes, would love to see photos of hummers and fuzzy purple flowers. ;o)

Teka - you need to watch this when you're bored. It's a hummingbird camera in Orange County I think. Tomorrow 1-2 pm Calif. time is a release of 2 babies raised by rehabber. Something scared off mom several weeks ago and she abandoned them. This is a long time camera and are waiting for another bird to build a nest. I watched in spring when babies fledged from the nest. All are named Phoebe (Phoebe hummingbird if you lose the link). I keep it on and check in time to time.
I will warn you that Ustream is having some problems today going off/on.
I also have been watching the Decorah Iowa Eagles sitting on eggs.
-
Thank You!!

Back again. The home owner thinks Phoebe may be building another nest up left side near the brown post (holds camera at times). They've had several kinds of hummers visit some beautiful reddish ones we don't have here in Texas. The nest visible far right side is old, homeowner put in to encourage new nesting. There is a hummer nesting in neighbor's yard. One also stole lots of fluff from another old nest.
I plan on tuning in for release. I think I read on chat today that release should happen if only a light rain falling but will not happen if an outright storm. This is a release from 4 years ago different rehabber.

This is their facebook page. Notes birds will arrive in yard around noon (CA time) and sit in cage to acclimate before release though I think rehabber is only about 10 miles away.

Saw this little beauty Thursday afternoon

You got to observe and photograph such a lovely hummer in March!

I was at the Zoo on Saturday and saw that little beauty in the Hummingbird House. Nice photo.
-
Thank you so much for sharing that photo. After the winter we have had, I am afraid that the hummers may never show up.

SoCalLisa: Your pictures are one of the best things from this whole experience. They make me feel so good

Our resident hummers have turned into ravenous little piggies! DH has filled the feeders (two on the front porch, two on the back porch) at least twice this past week.
We always keep the sugar water fresh, but these days they're sucking the feeders dry even before it's time for a change!
