Groin and buttock pain... Very anxious
hi,
I do have a history of anxiety aches and pains and ofcourse every little pain is automatically associated with mets. Had a low back spine Mri 3 months ago to rule out mets because of pain I was having. The scan was clean and only showed degenerative discs. Now pain has shifted (from one day to the next) to my groin and buttock on my left side. I am in extreme anxiety and cannot think of any other reason why this would hurt. Pain did start after 2 days of lying in bed due to laryngitis and fever but it is still there (4 days now).
Anyone familiar with this Kind of pain? It is mainly when lying down or sitting.

yes have had some scares. Had really bad Lower back pain a month ago. Couldn't sit up for two days and standing up bad too. Could only lay flat. I thought it was mets for sure . I kept thinking , so this is what it feels like. Kept saying if it doesn't get better in two days I am going to surrender and go to onc. Low and behold each day it got better. After 5 days back to normal. Now I understand the two week rule better. The pain would radiate to hips as well and was exceptionally painful.
I don't recall any specific thing or event that caused it either. I just felt so sure that my time had come.

thank you luckypenny for sharing your experience. I guess if it would be back pain i would be less worried but pain in my groin and buttocks?? That is just weired and unexplanatory!

Sometimes a bulging disc will cause pain in the buttocks or down the leg. That is actually pretty common. I know lots of people who have experienced this. I myself have a bulging disc (or discs?) that flare up once in awhile (even as we speak) and my tell-tale symptom is always a burning in my calf. Where you hurt depends on which disc is bulging. Mention this to your doctor and see what he or she thinks.

It could be that when you were lying around you put some pressure on a nerve that you otherwise would not have. Give it a few days and see if it starts to resolve itself. That two week rule really does make a lot of sense for unexplained pain. Just a few days ago, I started having this strange pain on the side of one thigh, got up this morning and it seems to be getting better.

I don't see your status to see if you are on any anti-hormonal, but those meds can cause extreme hip and groin pain. Rule is if you have the pain constant, not relieved by normal ibuprofen dx, for two weeks, call your doctor to rule out anything.

Hi Netali
Sorry to hear you're going through this.
Could it be sciatica? http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/sciatica/Pages/Introduction.aspx
I had the same symptoms as you. Mine came on suddenly, lasted a month and then went.
A more sensible person than me would have gone to the docs for a professional opinion!
Best wishes
Alice

I agree with all of the above and groin and buttock pain is a very common symptom of lower back strain. It is generally muscular in nature and I have had it off and on for years. I continue to just work through it and do stretches and it gets better and then suddenly returns. Never too bad though. I think it is part of aging for some of us.

thank you all for your calming words..
I am seeing my MO tomorrow for my rutine 3 month check up and will tell her about my pain. It doesn't feel muscular. It is a very strange kind of pain, sort of a pounding and burning sensation.
I'm praying for it to just go away!

Netali, if you have bulging discs, almost certainly on of those discs is pressing on a nerve. The nerves "come out" of the spine in bundles, through "holes" in the spine. You'll feel pain at the middle/end of those nerve bundles, and the place tells you which vertebra has the problem.
I went in to my PCP for "shooting pains in my right ankle" and the doc said "problem with your L5". Sure as heck she was right. Lying in bed may have caused your disc to compress that nerve bundle.

Having numbness is tailbone and buttocks so had xray. It showed something on L 2,3, could it be something besides a tumor?
-
Could still be a disc issue. Let us know what they tell you.
-
Linda, it could easily be a disc issue. Or some other kind of spinal issue. Much of the population has back pain, not due to cancer.

Good news CT.showed nothing, pain is better, they think it is the Tamoxifen.
-
Great news. Hope you are feeling better.
