i dont go to Dds if not invited - i try to know my place.

We walked in the refuge on trails this AM now that the snow is gone.

We went to parade - had a coffee cup with a little coffee and a lot of baileys, godiva, and cream.  Saw some of Dds friends but no friends of ours.  It was a beautiful day

Then went to Irish pub for lunch and more Baileys.  They serve sweet potato fries with maple cinnamon mayo.  Couldnt resist.  So i napped a few hours. We will order a movie tomight.  No classes next week - destressing!!!

Ducky your grandson sounds so so sweet.  I also have a grandson (10) who is sensitive and considerate, and has a sister who is so difficult with her mom. She is 8 and throws full blown tantrums.

But they are both angels for me.  She will be a handful.

Your GD will have love and menories of you when she grows.   I raised my grandson and now he thanks me for keeping hus butt in line and making sure he did well in school.

Why others get the attention I dont know.  But it is so true.

Diane sounds like DIL just has to have comtrol where u r concerned.  I am glad DS is stepping in more often now.  Its like u r both dealing with a child.

Sheila, you do need that walk!  I got out for the first time in weeks and it felt good.

Be patient with baby.   Just a few weeks away!!

No Sheila you most likely didnt get BC from not breastfeeding. I breastfed 6 kids and was pregnant and breastfeeding for a total of at least 12 years and still got BC.

Many factors come in to play.

Sheila not too late to spend the morning in NY with us this week.  You could be home by 2.

    Happy week end.

Sandy, gosh I hope you feel better this week.  I guess when you take away one stressful factor, the others rear their ugly heads and we become aware of the next big pain in the butt....here's hoping.  (((S)))

Sheila, understood....but I guess I always thought you are so close to NY!!  (compared to me, 70 miles and 2 hours by train).  I can keep wishing...and I can find you another time...I just think you won't want to go anywhere once the baby comes!  Smile

Beautiful day -- but darned it's colder again.  Went out to church and learned the pastor's son has a recurrence of testicular cancer in his chest area (it probably was there all along.)  He is in first year at my college and had to drop out.  Chemo tomorrow and prognosis good...but what a worry.  I want to help but they are all covered for this week. I hate cancer even more now, if that is possible.

Am happy to have totally relaxed this week end - a little too much.
And I gained back almost 2 lbs. prob. from the drinks and fries.  (do ya think?)  I know what I have to do.

Love the dueling smileys, Sheila!  Keep them handy....

Sheila - I'm sure they'll call you enroute to the hospital.  Quite a number of young woman who say they don't want their mom, end up wanting their mom :)

In the midst of the St. Paddy's Day cooking.  Two quick boils of the corned beef and then we switch to glaze and oven method.  I do the cabbage in a saute pan, shredded with onions, butter, salt and pepper.  Soda bread just came out of the oven.  I've definitely succeeded in making it extra, extra dry.

oh gosh, you just reminded me ... DH is cooking corned beef et. al. in the crock pot.  but we did not discuss soda bread.  Oops, neither he nor I will eat any bread let alone the delicious sweet soda bread.  darn....
maybe he will relent, pick some up, and I will have a piece.
Still at work and no one in the building except the custodian who I accused of taking things from a closet.  I hope he doesn't kill me....

This morning I was listening to CNN and they had breaking news - thought it was the airplane story...but it was an earthquake in So. CA from an on the spot reporter...as it just happened.  I became frantic because they never said where he was..He described the shaking and I figured if he is in southern CA, and he has a lot of shaking, what if it is worse in San Francisco area near DS?  I pretty much panicked - there has not been a significant quake since DS moved there.  .I grabbed my computer to look it up but the news came back on and said a 4.7 in LA (later adjusted to 4.4).  Whew!!!  that is OK...minor to no damage usually.  If I am going to panic like that when I hear about a quake, how will I deal with when he moves to Berkeley, just a short distance from a fault?   When I go to see him this spring, I am going to get them four emergency backpacks so they can keep two in the city at their jobs, and two at their new home just in case they get isolated or separated.  We all promised ourselves we'd have these bags packed after 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy... and I admit I don't have one.  Is anybody prepared for anything???
(Diane is prepared for St. Patricks Day....that counts!!!)
Sheila is prepared for grand-baby-arrival....that counts!!!

By the way, Sheila, it sounds like you are doing the nesting thing while waiting for this baby...laundry, straightening up, getting your things in order....Nerdy

Heading home....late!  but no night classes YAY!!!!!!!!!!

Joan - when DS moved to SF, I signed up for email alerts for earthquakes.  It was a big mistake on my part.  I began to worry about every little thing and was either texting or emailing my son to see if he was ok.  I agreed it was a bit much and so I completely stopped.  But last week, they did have a decent size earthquake up near Humboldt County (40 miles north) and I never checked with him.  He wrote me to ask why I hadn't checked on him.  If your son moves to Berkeley, he will be closer to my son and it will be easier for us to meet.  We do have an emergency kit in DH's car and I have an emergency closet with flashlights, some medical supplies, etc.  But no idea what to do now that our transistor radios will be useless.  I could do better.

I suppose we could all do without the yummy soda bread.  Tonight's dinner is an experiment - won't know for a while if this was a good method to try.  DH is enroute to Idaho, so it's me, DD, and two young women who have lived in my home at various times.  They love to cook with me but this recipe required starting hours ago, so they get to peel potatoes.

I didn't nest as a grandparent - we already knew where we stood....but Sheila - it will be wonderful for you, she is YOUR daughter!

I texted DIL this morning to ask for pics of the girls in the outfits I sent for today.  Her response was the oldest didn't want to wear it and the youngest was very, very sick with a 103 fever and she was rushing to the doctor.  I texted DS about an hour ago to ask how the baby was and what the doctor said - his response "ha? they are fine, where did you hear that?"....never mind.

I know she doesn't want anybody except her husband during labor and delivery

I said I can respect that...because she didn't use that famous tone of voice

I think I'm nesting....I like to be in NR just in case.....I guess the first one is different....

I can't constantly call and say are you home?

But I have my way of checking things like FB...she posted or liked something about 3 hours ago....

Diane..I have no words don't know what to say to you......She has deep issues.........

When Tsunami happened in Oahu about 2 years ago.....I was worried because we already knew but for them they were sleeping....

Enjoy your dinners...I'm just having chiken and sweet potato.....Was too lazy to cook corned beef and I love it....

Sandy, yup, Diane and I both seem to want to be near our kids...and we both worry but we deal with it.  I get the daily emails from USGS for EQs in CA.  I always text my DS and ask if he felt it...but I forgot today.  He only felt one since he's moved there.  His new home is a few miles from the University at Berkeley...and the Hayward fault runs right under the football stadium.
My DD does not "appreciate" her in-laws and she used to be vocal about it in front of her DH.  Now she is better - they live 40 minutes from in-laws and now 5 hours from me....NOT FAIR...I am the hard-working fun grandma....I roll up my sleeves when I get to their house and it is non-stop fun until I leave.  But I am glad DD is showing some respect for her in-laws.
I do not have a daughter-in-law yet and I don't know if I ever will.  Guys are single...although DS in Chicago has met a girl and now he never calls me.  Wahhhhh...
Did I just ramble?  Yup, I think so....

I do not like corned beef and I do not like cooked cabbage.  DH made it; I promised I'd try...I took a piece of the stringy meat about an inch long and 2 strings wide...mashed it with a boiled potato, and skipped the cabbage.  I made a big bowl of soup and broccoli.  I cleaned up and that is when I decided I really really do not like the traditional meal.  And I am Irish....

Sheila, you are good to check discreetly on DD...I hated when relatives would call and say "are you still there?" So keep reigning in the temptation to call.  Unless you have something else to say.
So funny, everyone is different...my friend from work has a dughter due in May and DD calls her 3 times a day just to tell her about the kicking or whatever.  They are very close.  There is no MIL.
I never had that with my DDs...I gave them space.

    Sleep time....gn

Yes, it was USGS I had signed up for too!  :)  The funny thing about tonight's menu is that I don't like traditional corned beef and cabbage either but this new recipe I did - it was really very good.

I also congratulate you, Sheila - so hard to  be in the background - nice job :)

Sandy - I can only deal with DIL because all of you are here for me - thank you!

    good morning

Joan....It's not that we don't talk about the pregnancy but i always wait for her to bring it up and sometimes she does and we talk about details for over an hour...i can eat corned beef once a week I love it.  This detective checked the FB and DD posted an hour ago........hahahahaha  I'm not hurting anybody right ?

Sometimes i think it's me with this total respect thing because I did suffer during my marriage with my MIL who lived with us in 1 bedroom apt for 2 years

the sun is out not sure about the warmth level

Thank You all for being my friends..I love you and sending sunny hugs ♥
