Scalp Sensitivity?

Howdy!

I've been diagnosed with IDC and have to get chemo, radiation & surgery.  I've already got some wigs (thanx to my mother's generosity a couple of years back, when we had no idea I'd be getting cancer), but I'd like to know, please, what you gals' experiences have been in terms of pain, discomfort, rash, etc. on the scalp during chemo.  I already found wigs uncomfortable WITH all my hair still there  (prickly, itchy, too tight, hot), so I'm wondering if it's even realistic for me to consider wearing a wig, or if I should just limit myself to turbans.

Thanx in advance for any input on this!

I just lost my hair and haven't worn my wig all day yet. But today I practiced wearing it around the house and found it to be much more comfortable with a wig liner. I ordered them from TLC.

The only time my scalp was sensitive was about 10-14 days after my first chemo when my hair started coming out. I had my husband shave it all off on day 14. The stubble was a little uncomfortable the first couple of nights, but then didn't bother me anymore. Tip- if you find you are shedding little hairs after you shave it (if you intend to) roll a lint roller over your head to pick up all those little hairs so they are not all over the house!

As AKJ said a wig liner is a must otherwise it is itchy!

I had a lace cap human hair wig and it was very comfortable. I even went the entire summer wearing it and although I was hot some days it was fine.

hi lv2crft, a wig was not for me so I went commando at work and home but wore a baseball cap when doing errands around town.  If you can afford a little splurge, get a satin pillowcase.  It feels nice on your scalp and won't catch and pull what hair you do have.  Best wishes!  ♥

Thanx to all 4 of you for your replies!

I never knew there were wig liners, and the satin pillowcase sounds luscious, LOL!  Around the house, I would definitely go "commando" (new expression for me, LOL!), and that hint about the lint roller cracked me up:  I have plenty of those for my rabbit, since he sheds excessively for weeks at a time about 3x/year.

    Appreciatively,
