Pari, we're sorry your mom is dealing with this. As you can read in our main site, the blood stream and the urinary system are more open to infection during breast cancer treatment (just click the link for more information). Could be that they want the blood test to make sure that the infection didn't affect the bloodstream.

Please let us know how everything goes.

    Dear moderators

thanks for your replay. The dr told us that she has  UTI infection and they keep her in the hospital till sunday. If the blood test were clear they will discharge her. once again thanks for your replay

    Pari -

Please don't worry too much (easy for me to say, huh).

It's impossible to be admitted to a hospital without having blood drawn. Maybe it was to look for bacteria in the blood sample, but more likely it was to check on her overall condition. Or both.

For various reasons including arimidex I am a candidate for uti's.  I was halfway through cancer treatments 18 months ago, and I've had 3 uti's since then. All have been knocked out with a course of Keflex or amoxicillin. I am extra careful with hygiene -- shower a day is not enough, got to do perineal care more than once a day.

Your Mom will hopefully find what works for her.
