I am Jess,83 yrs old and diagnosed with IBC last August, had chemo, mastectomy, now on herceptin and radiotherapy starting next week.

I got my pathology results and could someone tell me if they are good results

Clear margins

No evedence of residual inavasive ductal carcinoma

no evedence of Ductal carcinona in situ

15 lymp nodes removed all negative to tumour

    Hello there jessozzie!

    Another Aussie here, I am in Victoria!

    I can't help at all with Inflammatory Breast Cancer it isn't something I know anything about. It is a fairly rare type, is that what you were diagnosed with?

    Your Path report is all good, no invasion  into the lymph nodes, and clear margins but it is discussing there being no evidence of DCIS or IDC. I am wondering if you were diagnosed with IDC? 

    There is nothing scary in that report, to be worried about!

    I am sure someone with much more knowledge than me will come along and be able to  help you more than I can.

    Hi Jessozzie!  Yup another Ozzie here as well, I'm from South Australia........welcome!  

    I agree with Ariom, sounds like you were diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Cancer not Inflammatory Breast Cancer.........they are two very different types of Cancer of the Breast.

    Your report is all very good.  Clear margins means that there was enough tissue taken at surgery to make sure there were no cancer cells left.  There was no Ductal Carcenoma In Situ......this just means that there was no cancer found in the duct that was taken at surgery.  During surgery the doc removed 15 lymph nodes and they all tested clear for cancer.  The lymph nodes are the filters for the fluid moving around your body and the pathologist didn't find any cancer cells there.  The nodes are usually the first place the cancer will travel to......yours were clear so that is a really good thing!

    Thank you for the reply,yes my report did say all i wrote, but yes i do have IBC, i was treated at cabrini..its just i dont understand these reports, but i am glad you said they are fine, it came at a very late age for me, but i do feel for the younger group out there that are battling this shocking desease..

    Jess you had multifocal meaning more than one type of BC........both IDC and IBC.  Where is Cabrini?  Is that Sydney?  I've heard that name before but just can't place it.

    Good luck with your rads next week!  The biggest thing with those is to remember to keep your skin well and truly like a grease pit between treatments as your skin will get extremely dry.  The Rads doc will recommend a cream to use but a lot of people have used Emu Oil and have had really good results at keeping the skin from breaking down too much.  Along with the skin issue there is the fatigue........some get it worse than others but you will get it.   If you are feeling tired make sure you rest and it will last as long after your rads as your rads treatments themselves.

    Check out the different threads here as you will find a thread with others going through the same thing pretty much as the same time.   It's good to communicate with them as you can all give support to each other.

    Hi again! So glad Chrissy ventured in and worked out that it was 2 types of BC that you had. I knew someone with more knowledge would be along to help.

    Chrissy, Cabrini is a Private Hospital in Melbourne.

    Jessozzie, I agree, there are so many young women here battling BC, many with young families and even some who are Pregnant. 

    As Chrissy said, there are so many threads here that you can join in, and there are a few Aussies here and New Zealanders posting.
