MRI questions

Hi there,

I am scheduled for a surgical biopsy in the near future to take closer look at the LCIS that they found in my first biopsy. 

They have invited me to do a MRI research study before I do the biopsy.  I won't  get a copy of the results, but my breast surgeon will give me the results verbally, and it won't be on my record.

The big upside is that it won't be any cost to me, but do you think it's worth it if I can't get a copy of the results?  Is this a big deal or just go for it?

PS  - anyone who has had the MRI - how did you do with the contrasting agent I.V.? Did you have any reactions to it?  Can you just go on with your day after the MRI or do you need to take it easy afterward?

    I'd do it if your surgeon isn't already planning one. My surgeon did one before my excisional biopsy to make sure they didn't see anything else going on. Depending on where you go if you just have LCIS they may send you for an annual one anyway.

    I had no problems with the contrast. I feel a little "discombobulated" after one, mainly just from lying on my stomach so long and all the banging and noise. Fine to drive home. I probably would have been fine to go to work but have usually taken the day off. Think I have stopped for groceries, etc, so yeah, I'm fine afterwards.

    I'd go for it.  I mean - why not?  The procedure itself is easy, you just lay there for a bit.  I had headphones to drown out a little of the clunking and banging.  I had no problems with the contrast agent either & I drove myself home.

    Hi there!

    So I did the MRI.  I am glad I did it, but I learned what I'd do differently next time - bring an ipod or something that the tech could plug in my music!  The noise was weird/annoying at times, but I got through it!  Was not claustrophobic at all - just closed my eyes the whole time and did fine.  Even the IV with the contrast dye was not a problem.  Also my back hurt from the position I was in - not sure if much could be done about that.  Otherwise it pretty much went well.  Will find out in a few days about the results!!
