This spring, pollen is kicking my butt!! Nasalcrom and antihistimine eye drops are working but need them more frequently.

Has anyone tried allergy shots? Are we allowed to do allergy shots with cancer (remission)?

    Anyone tried acupuncture?

Share your experience please! (I will cross post this on complementary area because there really is no other place to put this!)

    Thanks

wally - allergy shots will not help you in the short term.  They are desensitization injections for individual pollens that take a long time to work - I did them for about 10 years.  Also, with pollen allergies they can only desensitize you to a few things at a time, so if you are allergic to many differing types of pollen (as I was) you will still have symptoms, they just won't be as severe.  If you move to a new place, or vacation in the Spring, you will react to whatever pollen is in that location, and have to start over in the process.  I abandoned the shots because I was a military wife that was always being relocated.  I started just treating the symptoms with prescription meds and found that over time my symptoms lessened.  Is there a reason you don't want to take one of the many OTC allergy meds?  Claritin is used during chemo for Neulasta bone pain, so I would think that most oncs don't have any reason to let their allergic patients use it for allergy relief.  Good luck - I feel your pain!

Wally .. sorry to hear the spring allergies have already taken hold.  It will be allergy season here very soon.  Sometimes when mine are particularly bad I'll have my PCP give me a steroid shot.  Other times regular Benadryl helps .. luckily it doesn't make me sleepy.

    hugs,

    Bren

    Thank you all.

Honey is not an option for me (low carb and it would shoot my glucose into the stratosphere!)...

I mainly just get sinus headaches and stuffiness so I use my neti pot frequently. Occasionally I take a Claritin.
