I'm doing yoga 2-3 times a week...I'm just starting out but sweating my butt off each time and I think I'm doing pretty good this far...the weather is finally getting warmer here in NY so I plan on starting to walk when I can ...prob during my lunch hour at work

Welcome Eileen. Nihahi chinooking sounds the same as our Santa Ana's which come in off the desert and blow hot and headaches abound because of the barometric pressure. IBD you are too funny. Wonderland put a sign on the piles 'Free Firewood'
Tonight did Body Jam class. I shared this on FB - it was a fabulous class and my Vietnamese friend came to dance, so it was extra special, came out of the room hot and sweaty and pumped up with joy and happiness, then I came home and brought in the mail and I had a solicitation from a mortuary .... Like I said, I wonder if they know something I don't know

I am off to bed. Did a two mile WALK around 9 pm. Started the day at 5:45. Plan on sleeping in tomorrow.
It's gorgeous here right now. Frogs were serenading me during my 9 PM-ish walk. And the stars + Milky Way. Glorious.
More later. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Somehow I suspect no problems sleeping tonight

Today was going to be day off, but at last minute decided to do a half workout. I exercised for 40 minutes and got in 5 miles!

Friends, good morning!
I came across an interesting fitness video. Not sure what to make of it. LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-50GjySwew
Question: Does anybody know anything about a theory that exercising too much or too long causes free radicals? Have you all ever heard about that?
-
Was extremely sleepy all day yesterday - on way to work, while at car dealership waiting for servicing (new tires), at work during the day. Not sure why. Went home and changed my clothes. I was beat but had to go back out to gas up the car so, since I was out anyway, stopped in at the gym and worked out (stat bike, elliptical, weights) for an hour then went back home and was in bed by 8:30pm. Maybe I need to only put enough gas in car for the day so I have to fill it every evening and that will get me to the gym!
-
Watched that video, InspiredbyDolce; it's, um, a little odd but as Pope Francis said, 'who am i to judge!' Whatever gets you out & moving is good, and the woman doing the prancing is obviously trim and fit.
-
HAHA inspired - that was a funny video!
Bluetail, I love my fitbit - it is small enough to stuff in your pocket, or you can clip it on to your clothing. It monitors steps, flights of stairs, etc pretty accurately, or at least my old one did until it went on the fritz and the company replaced it. I've only been using this new one for a day. Before I was trying to get 10k steps a day with it, it definitely keeps me off my butt more at work, I'll make several trips daily to the main building from my office now just to get in additional steps. And it's amazing how many flights of stairs I climb on laundry day!
-
oops, forgot to add my exercise - walks every day this week at lunch, and training session Monday at gym where we worked on legs - still feeling it two days later! Date night tonight, but tomorrow it will be back to the gym to do my arm routine again.
-
Welcome Eileen!! Patoo - good for you for taking the opportunity to get a workout in!
Bluetail - I have the NikeFuelband - Nike's version of the Fitbit. Mine is a bracelet that tracks steps and calories and something called "Nike Fuel". You can sync it with your smartphone. I bought the Nike product because I already use the Nike + Running app to track my running, so this integrates seamlessly with that. I have a co-worker with a Fitbit bracelet, and he loves it, so I think either one would work. As Pat says, it's an incentive to try to hit your goal every day.
Walked Mikey last night - it's nice that it's getting warmer and he'll actually agree to walk - most of this winter he's dashed out to do his business and dashed back in as quickly as possible! Also a 2 mile round trip walk to our favorite restaurant, but the good of those walks is always undone by consumption of chips and margaritas. Yoga this morning.
-
Welcome Eileen and I enjoy yoga too.
At the gym this morning, freestyle step, legs, bum & tums and body balance.
-
Hello Ladies,
I'm reporting in after a week away. I've been continuing to run a mile every other day, walk the dogs everyday, and go to the gym to work out upper and lower body on the weight machines 3 times a week.
Hope everyone is well.
I'm enjoying beautiful weather and a visit from my brother and sister-in-law from Nebraska.

Welcome Eileen!
The Wednesday Walking Women took a road trip to a big town 100 miles away. We walked at a big mall for an hour, ate at a nice restaurant for two, shopped for two, and got home in time for Zumba!

-
hi all and welcome Eileen. Found a walking buddy at work and we took two walk breaks today. Nice change of pace. There are quite a few walkers here so I'll be in good company come nicer weather. Namaste! ♥
-
Bluetail I also love my Fitbit, the only trouble I have is that sometimes when I change from my work clothes to my workout clothes I forget to swap it over, like last night for instance when I danced my butt off I would have really liked to have seen what kind of energy I expended but I didn't realize I'd forgotten it until I was driving down the freeway almost to my destination.
Did a Sh'bam class today.

Hi Everyone - Welcome to the fitness group Eileen!
There was a story on the news about someone who had a severe reaction to her Fitbit - it was due to a nickel allergy. From everyone I know that has one, they really love them. On a random side note, last time I did the mountain hike a lady ran past me (opposite direction) and she had her cell phone stuck into her sports bra. I wanted to tell her about some of the people who have done that, and report that as their suspicion for getting breast cancer. I do believe it - several women on these forums have told me that their tumor showed up in the exact spot of the cell phone. The news has also reported that keying on an ipad on a pregnant lady's belly had done something to the unborn infant, can't recall what it was, but ever since hearing the story, whenever I type on mine now I place it on a pillow and then put the pillow on my stomach.
Reporting in: 80 minutes - 10 miles
-
About the allergy to the fitbit - that was one of the bracelet fitbits called the fitbit force - some people started having an allergic reaction - fitbit did a voluntary recall of the force, and is giving everyone who returns it a refund of full retail value. they are really a good company to stand behind what they sell, and the fitbit force and one are very highly rated. You can read more about it here
http://techcrunch.com/2014/03/12/fitbit-force-1-mi...
Just to be clear, the one is a very small unit that you clip on clothes or stick in your pocket, not a bracelet. I kind of like that, going incognito!
Snowing here this morning, and possibly record low temps for this date tonight - give me a break! Did some classical stretch this morning, and I do have gym bag in the car, planning on arms and some walk/jog intervals on the treadmill.
-
Thanks to all re: input on FitBit & the Nike device (NatsFan); maybe it's time for trip to Dick's to check them out and replace an ancient Polar HRM that's so old it was actually made in Finland (as opposed to the newer ones, made in you-know-where). (hbcheryl--my niece lives in HB and my sister--her mom, herself a Triple Negative survivor--lives in Mission Viejo.)

We were up to 50 degrees on Tuesday. Yesterday we got another 8.5" of snow.

I'm getting my energy back, but still coughing a lot so I have not biked or run my stairs and it's driving me CRAZY!!!! So crazy that I got my new weighted hoop out to try.....just so I could share with The Voices.
I was not expecting much since I have not used a hula hoop in quite a few (!!!!) years. But I figured I'd have fun trying. I kept it up for 10 minutes until my left elbow bumped the hoop!!!
So, Ann, and other hoopgirls...is a weighted hoop easier? It must be! Or maybe it's the size of the hoop? I really want to "get good" at this. I've been watching YouTube hoopdance videos and they just look like so much fun. I have not found any classes around here. Checked a book out through my library that has a dvd in it, so I'll see what it has to offer.
So....first question: best hoop for a beginner? Where did you get yours?
I have two coworkers who saw the book and want in. Lol!!! So this could be fun!
Thanks for any advice!

Welcome Eileen.
Went to Soldierfit boot camp class tonight. An hour of military style circuit training.
-
Today I subbed in 7th grade American History.....my favorite subject in the world! I don't know about the kids, but I had a really fun day!

Tonight I went to a Zumba plus abs class. I didn't realize that I had put my pants on inside out until the end when I was doing a sort of upside down stretch and noticed my butt in the mirror....opps!
-
Ruth I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the gym with my pants on inside out Dulci glad you're starting to feel a little better. Bluetail I kind of half heard/saw a piece on GMA this morning about a new fitness tracker that's coming, it's priced at $200 but apparently it can even detect everything you eat and convert all the information, yikes!!!
Body Jam class tonight, seems all I've done this week is dance, oh well it's better than sitting on my butt....
-
Ruth & Cheryl, I've done that and lost count of many times my was bra inside out.
Yesterday, body balance, pink pilates and yoga in the afternoon
-
These particular pants have the care instructions printed in BIG letters right on the butt, so anybody behind me was probably having a good laugh!
-
Quiet Friday
Freestyle step and body balance at the gym this morning.
-
An hour of spot toning with Denise Austin.
-
30 minutes on the Elliptical tonight plus weights and some toning exercises.
-

Maybe because birthdays make me reflective, this quote spoke to me.
-
45 minutes on the treadmill.
-
Is it your birthday Ruthbru? If so--happy birthday!
Bike to Nowhere at the gym yesterday; i may have an opportunity to get out on the real bike tomorrow morning, weather permitting.
