AnnFM: I will be staying within walking distance to go for radiation. My sister lives in the city. My daily routine will consist of rads, a nap and going for a walk with my sister. Also going to the library. Ann, that was good you went for mock rad. Yeah for me I had to take for 18 cycles starting March 15/14
TB90: north of PA. I will be going toontown for my rads. I know and I plan on touring it lol

Phebe, when I was on chemo I had to take a round of antibiotics after every neulasta shot. I had a neulasta shot after every infusion. Hopefully your counts will start coming up soon!
TB, Yeah, the fatigue just kinda of sneaks up on ya. Did they give you anything for the itch?
-
Not yet as I have only reported it to you so far
See the nurse or dr on Tuesday after treatment and will mention it. Not itchy today, but I am certain it will return. I too have a bit of a dry cough but it does seem more to do with my throat and I have bad allergies right now. May have nothing to do with rads, but of course I attribute everything to treatment right now. Actually, side effects of radiation could in fact be grossly exaggerated due to the fact that a lot of us would attribute everything to radiation. Just a thought.
-
You mean I didn't stub my toe because of rads??
-
One more Chemo of TC on March 20th and then 16 - 25 days of radiation afterwards. What is the general wait time from last Chemo to the first Radiation. I know I have asked my NP - but I keep forgetting! LOL Also, anyone else told they will get a C Scan by the ROncologist? Something about mapping out a plan? Also, do they still do permanent tattoos on breast for the radiation or use a permanent marker. If a marker, can you still shower? Is it best to put on an Aloe Vera lotion after each radiation treatment? So many questions eh!
-
carren, I was told 4-5 wks PFC to start rads. Nurse also told me some kind of CT scan and tattoos! So much to look forward to, huh?! I didn't ask her about pre-moisturizing, but I have been using Cetaphil the past few days just in case. My consult/planning appt is this coming Friday...I am guessing I will start the following week. Not looking forward to it, but it is one step closer to being done!
Will try to get my port out in April while doing rads. My BS wants to do my 6 month mammo first...ugh! Wow, hard to believe 6 months is almost here...but, it has been the longest 6 months of my life!
You will be right behind me. It's such a relief to be done with chemo:). I hope you rock your last TX!
-
Hi Keep: The CT scan is required at the outset for your RO to carefully design your treatment through the angle the rays strike your body. They do not even like you to lose much weight over the course of treatment as that can change how your body receives the radiation. A chest x-ray is given most days at the beginning of the treatment to ensure alignment (sounding like car tires now) and the tattoos are used to ensure that you are laying on the table exactly where you are supposed to be. It is very precise and sorry for the layman's terms. I asked about the daily chest x-ray and expressed some concern about all the radiation and they told me that the chest x-ray is minimal compared to the radiation treatment, at which point I decided to not even ask any more as I did not want to know
-
Carren: I hope that also answered your questions. Some use permanent markers, but they can wash off. The tattoos (at least mine) are so tiny that I can hardly find them myself. They look like a small blackhead. Your RO will give you info about skin care and each RO seems to have their own preferences.
-
TB90, thanks for the info. I am with you on the x-rays...gheez. Enough already! How is your skin holding up so far?
-
I was supposed to,have my simulation today, but they called early, this morning to reschedule to Wednesday. I am disappointed encaustic I was psychologically ready for today. I want to get this show on the road.
-
pam, good luck today on your first day of rads. I hope everything goes well for you.
smrlvr, I'm sorry your sim. got postponed. It's so disappointing when our minds are finally ready, and then it doesn't happen. Good luck on Wednesday.
Good wishes to anyone starting rads this week!
-
Just got Onc test results 22 and Oncologist says NO Chemo. So now onto to Radiotherapy. Scheduling CT next. Anyone that can tell me what happens next? Probably 33 treatments low and slow no boosts needed. Any questions I should ask? Ready to get this started it's been since November. Good luck fellow RADs. May we all come out the other side better and with minimal SEs.
-
Hello ladies! I just stared my Rads today. One down ; 32 to go!!! My RO gave me some Aquaphor samples to try, and recommended "Udderly Smooth" cream from the dollar store. He said to go ahead and use it right away after treatment and at night before bed.
My tech had said to wait until I had any problems... But I think I will start the cream right away.
-
I also had my 1st radiation today. Not as bad as I thought; managed OK with the nose plugs and breathing tube for the rads breathing technique. 29 more to go!!!!! I'll be putting some aquaphor on tonight
-
Joining the club for first radiation tx today. They placed a gel pad over my skin prior to radiation, they said it heps the radiation hit the more superficial tissue. They also placed some kind of device on my chest during radiation that measures the amount of radiation that is administered. It is supposed to check if it is the correct dosage was given. The whole thing was very surreal, still hard to believer this is really happening. Picked up eucerin cream for post radiation application and "Crystal" deodorant by suggestion of my sister who also had breast cancer three yrs ago. Hope it all helps.
Pam358- did you start today?
-
Wow, all these firsts today! It does seem to go fast once things start rolling along.
Keep: Skin is holding up well so far. But have developed a dry tickle in throat that may or may not be due to rads.
-
flagirl, I posted a list one page back that LizzieK posted on the winter rads thread. I printed it out and brought it with me to my consultation. It was a big help.
AndreaJ50, Girlstrong and AnnFM, Wow, you all started on the same day. How nice to be able to compare your progress. Good luck to all of you.
TB, I finished 10/31 today and saw the PA. My skin is still holding up with no SE's so far. I do have a dry cough, and it hurts just a tad when I take a deep breath. I was told by the PA that is has nothing to do with rads!? I find that hard to believe, but what do I know - I'm no doctor. He told me to mention it to my MO at my next appointment.
-
Slow: I wonder how your PA knew that? I have a list of side affects from radiation and a dry cough is listed. This is not necessarily due to lung issues, but can be where the rads hit our throat/wind pipe. Some women have also stated that they feel like they have a lump in their throat. I will check with my RO or his nurse tomorrow.
-
He said because I'm not getting radiated in that area, it wouldn't be a SE. I'm only radiated in the breast and nodes. No clavicle. Are they doing your clavicle?
-
No. Was just speaking with my my girlfriend about another matter and she just so happens to be a nurse. She mentioned that allergies are horrible right now due to our recent thaw. So I am likely just having allergies. Will still check it out tomorrow with the dr. I am paranoid about lung and heart issues with rads. I will likely create problems by worrying
Did I also mention that I will likely develop every SE that I read about Lol
-
Yeah, I felt that way when I started too. For some reason starting rads bothered me more than starting chemo - not sure why. I think it was more of a psychological thing for me. I'll just be glad when it's done.
-
Is your avatar a picture of your dog? I love animals and mine keep me smiling through all of this (until they poop on the floor).
-
Welcome Inks, Carren, Flagirl and Andrea!
I was supposed to start my Rads today but I ended up throwing up due to motion sickness/vertigo. I tried a different medicine than I used during my mapping and I think I should have taken it earlier. I will try previous meds and hopefully everything will go well tomorrow. The staff was very nice about the whole situation.
The good news was that a friend went with me today so it made the commute seem shorter.
-
Pam358
Sorry to hear about your motion sickness. Hopefully the new med will kick in and do it's job so you can get started with your treatment. I am waiting for rad onc to call and schedule the CT scan to determine treatments. Probably doing 33 low and slow no boost. I am hoping to get started soon as I am ready to get this over with. Any suggestions are welcomed for this newbie. Good luck with your next visit.
-
Pam, sorry about the motion sickness. I hope you get to start today!
TB, Yes, that is a picture of my rescue dog. We've had him going on three years now. He is so dopey and just the most gentle dog you will ever meet. We also have another rescue dog who turns 15 this year, and a rescue cat that is about 12. We try to stay away from shelters now lol.
-
hi everyone- I am waiting for a call from my RO for a start date for my radiation. I was dx in Sept2013, had four rounds of chemo, followed by a BMX on Jan 28th. I also have lymphodema in my right arm. Although I have been told that the radiation side effects are nothing compared to chemo, I am still nervous about it, but at the same time anxious to get started so I can begin to get my life back. Looking forward to sharing my experience and hearing about yours. Never been part of a chat room before, so please let me know of I am doing anything wrong .
-
Pam: So sorry about your motion sickness. I do not move. The machine moves around me. I hate feeling nauseous! Hope today goes better.
Anne: There is nothing you can do wrong. We just try to help each other out. I just finished #13/25 today and so far, no issues. I have a bit of a tan over the area being radiated and that is all. Lots of women have very little if any troubles. Hopefully you will be one of them.
-
Hope all is well for those that start rads.
Carmen: I just finished chemo two weeks ago. Still feeling the effects of it. For instance my two thumbs are quite sensitive, two layers of skin came off and are cracking. I'm putting Calmoseptine cream and wrap them with thumb gauze. I have no eyelashes so I use antibiotics for the infections. My bowels are working properly. LOL I don't need to use anything for constipation or diarrhea. Yeah it's great to finish chemo. Carmen? In Sask. we have to wait four to five weeks after last infusion. My ct scan is on March 24/14. From reading posts that's how I'm learning.

Nice to meet you Anneb! You're doing great
