jeanieb, your dance with breast cancer has been going on for more than two decades. You are such a tenacious (not sure if i have the right word) and determined woman. I admire you for having dealt with the disease for so long now. Im praying and hoping you have better luck with Affinitor, and being able to go nack to tax in the future as a good thing. Good vibes to you, and God bless. Let's try to appreciate what each day brings.

Hi All,
I don't recall if I've ever responded here but I finished 5 of 6 rounds of Taxotere & Cytoxin last July, 2013. After 4 rounds I was NED and my onc said an argument could be made for stopping then. However, I had mentally prepared myself for the 5th round so voluntarily went ahead and completed 5 rounds. For the most part the SE's weren't as horrific on me as they are for others. I did lose 4 toe nails several months later...no warning, no blackening, nothing...they just dropped off one by one. Thankfully 2/3 of the new nail was underneath so my toes weren't exposed. When the first one came off however I was FREAKED out. I didn't expect it and was scary to think a drug would have such lingering effects but considering it took me to NED with numerous bone mets, it was a small price to pay.
Good luck to all you ladies either currently receiving Taxotere or facing it in the future. I was one of the lucky ones and you might be too.

bcbarbie10 - I totally agree with you in enjoying each and everyday and everything about it. I have said that BC is a blessing in disguise, I have met lots of wonderful people on this site, it has made me realize what is and IS NOT important, and makes me take time to stop and smell the coffee and enjoy a cup while I am at it. I have never once wondered why but have just accepted the gift I have been given, I know not everyone looks at it as a gift, I guess it is all in how you perceive it and what you do with it. I am so glad you are doing well and pray it continues that way. Keep in touch and take care of yourself.
AmyQ - I am so glad you are NED and that Tax got you to that place. I have been told it is a great drug and I agree with that. It kept me going for another year and a half until it was time to mix it up again. I to lost my toe nails, I had to have both of the big ones removed a year ago in February and they may need to come off or what has come back in anyway, they are not looking so good but time will tell. I am sure I will go back on it sometime in the future but not for several years I suspect. My last Tax treatment was on January 16 and I am just now losing my eyelashes again. I would get them back on the 3 month break I would get and have them all through the 6 treatments and when I stopped for the break, that is when I would lose the eyelashes so I do know the effects hang around for a while. It is good to hear from you and that you are NED, and I hope it remains that way forever for you. Take care and keep us posted on how things are going.

Thanks bcbarbie10. I do not ever think I will be NED but it is something I do pray for and I know the power of prayer. I am very happy when there is no progression I can imagine if I were NED, I would be thrilled and not know what to do
. I was told by my onco's that I would never be completely free of this disease but we will manage it so I am happy with that, and will continue to pray for NED. Thanks for the extra prayers I appreciate it. I pray you remain NED forever and never have to do this again. It is nice to hear from you and how things are going in your life. Take care and keep in touch.
