Hi everyone,

Well I am one year out from double pmx due to LCIS.  I had nipple sparing on both sides.  Finished reconstruction with implants. Just curious as to what your followup plan is following mx.  Do you see oncologist one time a year?  any mammos? MRI?

Thank you!

I asked my oncologist the same thing at my recent checkup, six months after surgery. She said I didn't need to come back to see her unless I had a recurrence. The GYN doc will order a yearly MRI (no mammograms anymore since I had a bilateral mastectomy) but that's it. I was pretty shocked! I had DCIS in one breast but the other didn't show anything even in a pre-op MRI with contrast done to look for any other trouble. The pathology report showed the "good" breast had quite a bit of LCIS, so it's a good thing I decided on the bilateral mastectomy. I've since learned this is common in women with dense breasts. Since I had the BMX, I was told no radiation or 5 years of hormone therapy was required. Of course, no chemo because nothing was invasive.

It worries me that I may miss a recurrence and will request an ultrasound instead.

I see my breast surgeon once a year and my gyno once a year, 6 months apart. No follow up other than that. I had a pbmx almost 3 years ago.Only LCIS.

I had LCIS throughout both breasts found on mastectomy. I also had areas of atypical ductal and lobular hyperplasia. I have a yearly follow up with the breast surgeon for 5 years, and then as needed. According to the breast surgeons, no imaging is necessary as all they will see are implants.
