Pregnant 17 months after Mastectomy & being on Tamoxifen

Options

I am currently 14 weeks pregnant. My husband and I were shocked to say the least. We were using birth control but it obviously did not work. I was so scared out of mind and concerned about what damages the Tamoxifen may do to the unborn child as well as what effect the pregnancy may have on me as for as recurrence. My oncologist seemed concerned and came short of telling me to terminate. Instead she referred me to a high risk ob/gyn who would only tell me there were no studies to show any damage to the fetus nor what my chances would be for recurrence. I had decided to terminate but once I seen the ultrasound and the heartbeat at 7 weeks there was no way I could. I have stopped the Tamox. We are already parents to 3 beautiful children 18, 11 and 5. I am high risk since my youngest 2 were pre-term. Has anyone else out there became pregnant while taking Tamoxifen and so shortly after diagnosis? What was the outcome for your baby and yourself?

Southernmom - I just saw that no one has answered your post. I'm sorry I don't have any answers for you but you might try posting in Young with Breast Cancer and see if you have more luck. My heart goes out to you. Best wishes for a beautiful healthy baby.

hi I hope you got some answers. I've just found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant and I was on tamoxifen for 4 months before. I stopped taking them 2 weeks ago though. I hope all is well with you and baby.

Hi EsterDeas.  Congrats on your baby.  I wish you a wonderful and healthy pregnancy.   Everything is going great with me and baby.  I don't think I have ever gone to the doctors as much as I have these past 7 months, but thank God all is well.  The time has gone by fast with less than 12 weeks to go.  After baby comes I will go back on Tamoxifen,  however my onc has brought up me possibly having ovaries removed.   Not sure if I'm ready for menopause so soon after baby.
