edited June 2014 in Not Diagnosed With a Recurrence or Metastases but Concerned

I'm two years past diagnosis of stage IIa, triple positive IDC. I had a unilateral mastectomy. My onc just found a lump in my remaining natural breast. I go for a mammogram on Tuesday. I'm quite sure it'll turn out to be cancer again. What are the odds that it won't? I've already bought a plane ticket for next weekend so I can tell my family in person this time. Am I being overly negative? I just feel like if there's a lump that wasn't there before, there's a very high likelihood that this is not going to be something benign.

    I know it's easier to say than to do it, but try to stay positive, Christina.  A lump could be a lot of things. I had a lump in my non-cancerous breast that was a fatty lumpy nothing at the same time I had my cancer.

      And this may not make you feel better, but I'd much rather have a small cancer in my remaining breast than mets in some other part of my body.  If it is cancer, at least they are finding it soon.

    Christina:  Well that really stinks!  The first place we go to is BC.  But we still have the opportunity to get normal lumps.  So here is hoping for a normal lump and then a fun trip to visit your family.

    I hope you ladies are right. I am normally an optimistic person.

    Is there any info on getting bc a second time on bc.org? I have not been able to find too much but my head is kind of *duh* right now.

    And one more thing:  I had breast cancer and did not have a lump.  Lots of women come on here with all sorts of lumps that turn out to be benign.  So breast cancer does not = lump and lump does not = breast cancer.

    Christina, I know the waiting is the miserable part--well, not the ONLY miserable part, since you've been through all this before!  But I'm with the other ladies--it's worrisome but don't go there until you get there.  "Odds" don't mean much in each individual's situation--it either is or it isn't.  Hopefully isn't.

    And worst case scenario, if it IS a new primary cancer in your remaining breast--you marched over that big speed bump before, and if absolutely necessary, you can do it again.

    Thanks everyone, I'm so touched by your posts. :) I had my mammo and the radiologist really thinks this is nothing but normal tissue, but we are going to biopsy on Monday to be sure. I'm taking a lot of confidence, in the radiologist's confidence...and I've got a fun weekend planned so I don't dwell on things! :)

    I had a little nodule on my mastectomy scar. 

    Dr said she didn't think it was cancer, but she sent me for an ultrasound, "because we don't just ignore these things".

    Two days ago I had a biopsy. The radiological doc told me the good news was he thought it extremely unlikely to be cancer ..... the bad news was he was going to biopsy it anyway! Cheerful chappy!

    So now we wait ...... again! Here's hoping b9 for everybody in the waiting room ....... 

    Ps, I'm really hoping its not cancer, not least because my hematologist told me he would "consider" letting me stop warfarin if I no longer have active cancer. So he's waiting on the results too!

    great news morweena. I am in the same boat as you were. I finally had my biopsy today (it had to be rescheduled a couple of times). I hope I get the same great results as you did. :)
