Hello fine people,

I'm a guy, almost 40...found half golf ball sized lump in my chest about 2 weeks ago. Went to see the doctor who felt it as well. She told me to make an appointment for a mammogram and ultrasound. But (Kaiser) didn't book it for until 20 days later. So on the urging of our friends my wife and I went to the ER where we manipulated our way to get an ultra sound. The ER doc felt the lump (it's kinda hard to miss)...but the ultra sound didn't see a thing. They did blood tests too and nothing. So I have this huge thing in my chest and I'm suffering from really bad fatigue. Everyday about half way through the day I'm just completely gassed out...and I was an athlete most of my life and there's a big difference from being lazy, just a bit tired, and completely having nothing left. I'm at the latter of those 3. So I'm just curious has anyone had any misdiagnoses after the ultrasound not seeing anything? I'm keeping my mammogram appt in a few weeks. Maybe it's just coincidence and it's gynecomastia plus chronic fatigue syndrome or something but just interested to see what other people have to say.

I appreciate any help you can lend. Nerdy

I have no idea about your particular situation, the fatigue could be unrelated.  I hope you find some answers and feel better soon.  Maybe someone else will chime in and give some insight.  I do know many people have things seen in one type of screening test and not another.  It's good that your blood tests didn't sow anything alarming.

    Good luck.

ask for an MRI WITH CONTRAST scan, lobular cancer can be large and not show on mammogram or ultrasound - good luck

    Hi Verber,

Sorry that you had to find your way here.  I hope more of the guys will be along to help you out as well.

I would definitely push for an MRI or CT scan.  Obviously there is something in your chest ... and we need to find out what it is.

Let us know how you're doing.

    hi

Im 43, male and have a lump in my breast similar to yours, mine is directly behind my nipple.  I also had an ultrasound (no managramm) and so far the docs have said its not showing up as anything on the ultrasound and is simplistic gynecomastia. Now heres where we are really similar, i am also suffering from fatigue as you. I too was very active and used to go to the gym 4 times a week and now am out of breath going upstairs. I have to mow my lawn in three stages as i no longer have the energy to do it in one go. By the time night time comes i am shattered and all my joints and muscles hurt like ive run a marathon. I have very painful knees and my left hip also hurts continuously.

My doc has run some homone tests and is stating i have low testosterone. Aparently low "T" can cause chronic fatigue and joint pains and can cause gynecomastia.  I have yet to see him again to find out what we are going to do about it but maybe its worth looking into having a homone test checked out  too.  Its only a blood test so is quick and painless.

    Hope all goes well.

I was mis-diagnosed by several doctors, but not after the ultrasound or man-o-gram.  Those were conclusive.  I also felt tired (not that tired) and seemed to get sick more frequently.  I still feel tired (4 years later).  I think that it's because I'm getting old and since going back to school I don't exercise as much as I should.

I hope yours turns out to be low T and not cancer.  Best of luck.
