Just 16 days out from having bilateral mastectomy...

I knew there would be pain and discomfort by just wondering how long this lasts...had bilateral mastectomy with initial reconstruction with expanders. The last 2 drains were taken out 2 days ago...and the heavy pain meds I am off. The next line of pain meds Norco make me sick,...so right now I am taking Advil and Tylenol alternating between the two of them. I guess the biggest question in have is when the ps starts to fill...is it as painful as the initial surgery? Just wondering what to expect...

Bettiesch, I'm sorry that you've had a lot of pain with you surgery. I found the fills to be easy, but then I didn't have much pain from the surgery either. Everyone's experience is different.

I don't know how your surgery went but with mine it was done is a surgery center and I was sent home by mid afternoon. I had an extremely high level of pain. I did not find the expansion process painful at all. There is some discomfort which you are probably already experiencing because of the size/shape of the expanders. It's true everyone's experience is different but I wouldn't be too worried about the expansion process. Hope that helps!
