Anyone else getting Neoadjuvant therapy
I was recently dx with grade 1 ILC, my surgeon is sending me straight to the oncologist for chemotherapy. I do not have any real details yet, I got the diagnosis 2 weeks ago today, and my surgeons office called me to say I was being referred to the oncologist next week and a radiation doctor the following week. I was told the tumor is 1 cm, but a lymph node was biopsied and was positive for ILC as well. Anyone else with a similar experience? I'm not sure whether to just wait until my consult with the oncologist on Wednesday or call my BS on Monday and see if I can get more answers from her. Anyone else out there with similar treatment plan? Genny

Neoadjuvant chemo is stamdard TX for IBC and becoming more common for other types. I did both neoadjuvant and adjuvant.

I also had 4 rounds of FEC then 7 taxol's weekly before surgery. Mastectomy found 4cm residual mass 4 x3 x 1 with no lymphatic involvement or in the blood vessels of the breast tissue. I did have LCIS in all quads and some strands foci floating about the tissue. % nodes all negative but one was 2.7 cm's. Not sure what was going on there- Doc says that could have been big from something else. Clear margins- still got 28 rads and 5 more to scar and hope to exchange out expanders in 6 months. I am on tomoxifen right now. So I guess the chemo first did shrink the mass from 5.8 x 3.5 x 2.5 on MRI, I could feel the area soften and the hard spot feel smaller before the end of FEC. I think neo-adjuvant works! even on ILC. I did have a grade 1 but a KI-67 of 62. So yeah - it could come back one day even after clear margins- can for any of us!

How long did it take before you could tell the tumor was softening/shrinking?

Thanks Annette, I think that might be the kind of approach they are taking with me. I'll know more Wednesday. It's interesting how very many different approaches there are. It's all so overwhelming and confusing, but i'll feel so much better when I know more.

Can anyone explain KI-67 to me?
