Hi - I only saw a few posts about being young in NYC and they were from a couple years ago so I thought I would update. Is there anyone else out there in their early 30s just diagnosed or a breast cancer survivor. I just don't see any groups specific for women our age - I almost attended one that was an online forum and may try it again next month. I think there is a need for more forums/groups of young women (i.e. women in their 30s) dealing with this disease. Everything out there does not seem tailored to our issues and it would be nice to get to know other ladies in the NYC area and potentially start our own group. Anyone interested?

    Hi Lillaura22,

I am 30 years old and was diagnosed 4 months ago.

Back then I was living in NYC but I returned to my home country for egg harvesting and chemo..

Currently I am considering doing double mastectomy and maybe I'll go back to NYC for that.

Who are your doctors and where are you having your treatment?

    Hi Katnat,

I had my double mastectomy at Weill Cornell and all my doctors are there. I also chose there because my mom was being seen there for her follow-up.

My breast surgeon is Dr Simmons, my plastic surgeon is Dr. Otterburn and my oncologist is Dr Cigler. I like them all, they are great and have been throughout the whole process.

    Hi lillaura22,

    Thank you for sharing.

Are you through chemo right now?

Did you see any other doctors for second opinion?

I saw 3 surgeons: one from Lenox Hill, one from NYU and the last from Mount Sinai Hospital.

I was a wrack  when I was diagnosed..my mom was diagnosed when she was 43 and since I was 17 I was checked every year.

I didn't imagine that I can have BC at such a young age when I don't have the gene.

Every surgeon that I've met suggested lumpectomy and mastectomy as we'll.

Back then I wasn't able to decide in addition to the fact that I moved my life from the states to my home country.

What king of a mastectomy did you chose to have? Are you satisfied?

    Sorry for any English mistakes..

i just finished chemo the week before last, so all done with treatment now - i dont need radiation. I did not get a second opinion i was more focused on getting treated right away. I had my surgery 2 weeks after being diagnosed. I had a nipple sparing bilateral mastectomy. I also didn't have the gene and my mom was diagnosed at 52, I did not think I would get it and so young either. I am very satisfied with my surgery, I had some issues with one of my expanders that got infected and had to have removed. I'll start reconstruction again in about a month so I am not completely done with my surgeries yet.

    Hi there-

I am in NYC also and was interested in meeting up with other young women. I found a group called YSC F2F available through meetup and they get together once a month. There were about 10 people at the last meeting and although they are brief you can be totally frank in a way that you can't with family/friends (at least for me).

    Cheers
