I do not know too many specifics right now.  A bit about me though I have not felt good for a year and it was low B12 (normal, on B12 injections) low D and I had a nagging pain on my right side in my back.  Was sent to neuro as they thought it was nerve issues due to B12, then to Rheumy as they thought it was joint.  One of the MRI's showed a spot on m sacral area that said either an "atypical hemangioma or metastasis."  Before they figured that out, it was decided I needed a complete work up and I'm a poster child, I had not had a mammo in 3 years and I'm 46.  We moved and I loved my old Dr. and just hadn't been proactive about it.

Had the mammo, suspicious cluster, magnification, biopsy last Friday (ended up with a hematoma).  Have an appointment on Thurs as they like you to come in.  However, my Dr. called me this morning.  She asked if I had an appointment and I said yes.  She said to keep it and then asked if I wanted her to go over them with me.  It was then that I knew.  It is DCIS, but that is the preliminary, I guess other tests are still being run? I really feel not feeling well etc. was leading me to this dx.

So, first of all Dr's doing the biopsy should never speculate, she stated she was pretty sure it was B9.  I had not done self exams so after the suspicion I started checking around and found a lump right near where the cluster was.  I asked the Dr. to check my mammo and she didn't see anything.  I'm dense, so of course she probably didn't.  Could they find something further once they do more testing or whatever the next step is?

    momto3boysaz - I just posted on your other thread.  In a DCIS diagnosis they usually include whether you are ER+ or - and PR+ or -.  All the answers will lie in the pathology report.  Be sure you get a copy of it when you're at the appointment.  I advised you in my other post to take someone with you on Thursday.  Also, stay away from Dr. Google, because in all actuality you don't know enough to research anything yet and you'll just scare yourself needlessly.  Please let us know how it goes on Thursday.....

    Sorry that your biopsy came back positive. I think it's normal for our personal Drs. to tell us it might be benign, supposedly 80% are. 

    Your breast surgeon will explain what the biopsy report says, some do MRIs, mine did not. Obviously a very stressful time for you. If you are really struggling ask for anxiety meds. I waited 6 months, to ask, & I wish I had gotten them in the beginning.

    Thank you ladies.  Actually my gyn sends you to an imaging place and then they have nurse navigators that take you through the process.   So, they will get me to the next steps.   My Dr. always gets the results and called me with the suspicious mammo, and then called today no wanting me to have to wait until Thurs.  But like you two have said, I didn't process much of what she told me.  It was the Dr who did the biopsy that said she was pretty sure it was benign.  I do have to say, the place I go is fabulous and very compassionate and caring.

    I'm concerned about two things, the lump I found before biopsy that didn't show on the mammo.  And during biopsy I got a large hematoma at the site of the lump and calcs.  Am now wondering about the lump since it was positive.  Will the hematoma need to heal?  I know no one here can answer those questions, but ones on the top of my head at the moment.

    70charger & momto3boysaz: Thanks so much for sharing the process and timeline of treatment you've both gone through. The process seems to move fairly quickly then.How are you feeling after your surgery/treatments?

    Yes I might do a little preliminary research. I have a local hospital very close to where I live but I don't think that they are well known for treating cancer. However there are some very good hospitals in Toronto that do,like Princess Margaret and sunnybrook hospitals so I'm going to look into that a little bit. But that is an excellent point that having an all in one centre is especially helpful! . I'm just trying my best to keep thinking positively

    I'm a mom to a boy as well momto3boysaz.! A million thoughts have run through my head...and of course at the forefront is my son. I haven't been feeling well, walking my son home from daycare I felt like I was really going to pass out. I think it might just be part of a bug, unrelated to this.

    How are you doing today Ddkath70? I hope that you ae able to get the results of your biopsy tomorrow and don't have to wait through the weekend. I have my appointment with my doctor on Tuesday.
