I`m planning prophylactic total hysterectomy and a oophorectomy next month. As I understand I am premenopausal till surgery, but behind it I will be postmenopausal. What about Tamoxifen ? My oncologist says to continue with Tamoxifen. Maybe I need to ask for aromaze inhibitors?

I had an ooph and am in menopause from tamoxifen and chemo.   I was considering a switch to an AI but then a dexa scan revealed I had bone density issues.  My MO is keeping me on tamoxifen.  He said it still offers benefit.

I didn't want to take the tamoxifen so onco dr. said to do the oophorectomy during surgery due to cysts on both ovaries reaching all over uterus I had a total hysterectomy. That was in Sept. My oncologist wanted me to go onto a inhibitor but I declined. I see him again in March. I wanted to give my body time to adjust, this was not and continues to not be an easy adjustment for me. Night sweats, hot flashes, dryness- vaginal, hair and skin.. the list is endless. I am not so sure I want to take something else to make me feel more miserable. I am going to ask him to check my levels and go from there. Do what you feel is right for you but ask questions and insist on tests to make better, informed choices.

    best of luck to you.
