WI Sen Johnson's Reply To The LE Trtmnt Act Support Form
Here is WI Senator Ron Johnson's reply after he receive the request I sent him from The Lymphedema Treatment Act website.
"Dear xxxxxxxx,
Thank you for contacting me regarding federal spending and the partial government shutdown.
While I am certainly appreciative of any effort that calls attention to the damage that Obamacare will cause — and millions of Americans are now experiencing that unfortunate reality — I was not in favor of either the "defund strategy" or Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's engineered government shutdown. The federal government is a big enough drag on economic activity; engineering government shutdowns only increases that harm.
I attempted to help avoid a shutdown by proposing a more realistic one year delay of Obamacare's implementation at a White House meeting attended by President Obama's Chief of Staff, Denis McDonough, and Office of Management and Budget Director, Sylvia Burwell.
I also supported S. 29, the End Government Shutdowns Act, to make government shutdowns a thing of the past. This legislation would automatically fund government at current levels and trigger funding cuts when appropriation bills are not enacted prior to a new fiscal year. Enacting real fiscal discipline is essential. Political gameplaying will not solve Washington DC's dysfunction or America's debt and deficit problems.
Thank you again for contacting my office. It is very helpful to hear the views of the constituents that I serve. To date, my office has received more than 1,100,000 letters, emails, and phone calls. My mission is to provide information to as many people as possible concerning the enormous financial and cultural challenges facing America.
Please see my website at www.ronjohnson.senate.gov for additional information. It is an honor representing you and all the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Ron Johnson
United States Senator'
Please Note that I used the automatically generated form from the Website Link that I got here for The Lymphedema Treatment Act.
I was flabbergasted by his reply. Obviously neither him nor his staff really read the email. I never edited the form to include any reference to ObamaCare AND CERTAINLY ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT THE GOV'T SHUTDOWN.

hi cinnamonsmiles, I sent you a PM. Thanks for trying!
-
Badger, that is the website that I used to forward the automatically generated email from the website.

The senator's automated response is both sad and pathetic. I cringe to think that staff of any member of Congress would automate reading email to the point that there's no way to get a message through. I've been pretty successful in the past sending messages by fax. Meaning, I get some kind or relevant reply. Not always the reply I hope for, but at least I can tell that someone read my note or letter.
Sigh. This is not government at its best. This shows that at least one senator's office isn't even trying to hear what constituents have to say.
Thanks for letting us know what happened, Cinnamon.

Thanks cinnamon, I gave the link so people could read up on the bill as well as contact their reps, hopefully with better results. I got a decent response from my US Rep but I don't think he's a co-sponsor. I should check.
Sen. Johnson's (non) response only reinforces my opinion of the man.

When I first saw your thread I missed 'seeing' the "WI" or "Ron". I just 'saw' "Sen. Johnson" and thought "What's he done NOW?" Then I rralized it wasn't our Sen. Johnson - Tim Johnson (D. of SD). At least our Sen. Johnson will not be going back - he's decided not to run in '14.
-
Well at least you got some response- I sent mine using the link to Cynthia Lummis in Wyoming- did not get anything back except the autoreply from the link- I may have gotten a "letter" at my home since sometimes they send that out- I will check when I go home next.
-
LOL Kicks, how about that, your Sen. Tim Johnson and my Sen. Ron Johnson. Think there are others? It's a pretty common last name.
Wyo, I got a reply to the e-mail address I inputted for constituent info. It was formatted like a letter but nothing came in the mail.
-
I worked for a Senator years ago on Capitol Hill. At that time, constituent letters were handled by raw interns or those even lower on the food chain. There was no such thing as email then, so what happened is that the interns would review the letter, then manually code it to receive one of several canned letters, to be signed by autopen. With the advent of emails, my guess is that it's all handled electronically.
Letters that were different or didn't fit neatly into one of the canned responses were pulled out for the intern to manually compose a reply that addressed the points of the letter. Obviously whoever handled this letter just read enough to see that it vaguely involved healthcare and coded it to receive the health care reply letter. Major fail in his office.
And it's a stupid letter besides.
