How many of you do yoga?

Hi,
Could someone recommend a DVD. I am really interested in yoga, and now that I have had my surgery I don't know which kind of yoga would be good for me. Thanks all. : )

Chartruse, I've never actually used a DVD because I find the energy of a class to be part of the yogic process (that's just me). However, there are several instructors who produce yoga videos that are excellent, including Rodney Yee, Seane Corn, Shiva Rea, and Kathryn Budig. Check out Gaiam's website, or that of Yoga Journal (where you can also find free online yoga videos). If you've never done yoga before then start slowly (it can be harder work than it looks!) and gently. Honor your body and what it can (and cannot) do - there is nothing magical about being able to do an advanced pose. I was doing yoga for several years before dx; I now have some limitations due to surgery, but I am able to modify my poses and still feel the strength and energy of the practice. I hope you enjoy wherever your practice takes you - Namaste!

You can also find many of these instructors on youtube for free. You can dabble with various types of yoga...I sit and watch videos of the vinyasa sun salutations trying to understand the breathwork. Shiva Rea has some beautiful videos...I think she had a Moon Salutation or something that was really incredible to see. Good luck! Don't feel like you have to "master" any pose right now. I am still falling over several years into it. Enjoy where you are!

A great site with short or long videos for all levels and a bit of a community on the site. If you are new click on "beginners studio". There are several chair sequences for those who find standing or sitting on the floor difficult and still want to gain flexibility

Jayaytea (and others) - please check out this great BCO thread called
Guidelines on Exercise For Those With/At Risk for Lymphedema
http://community.breastcancer.org/topic_post?forum_id=58&id=801453&page=1
There are links to the SUSO website where you can find reliable info including two short papers, one for you and one for your instructors. Yoga is specifically mentioned. I'll also bump up the topic for you. Namaste! ♥

Badger this is great information, thank you. I gave it to the owner of my yoga studio awhile back when it was first posted. I saw a lady with a sleeve in class a few weeks ago and she was offered pose variations - it made me smile : )

Thanks for the info. : )

HI, I was told I couldn't do the Bikram or hot yoga classes anymore, because of the lymphnodes removed being in the heat could cause lymphodema? Does your Dr say that is a risk? I miss it so much, it was what I did to make me feel so good mentally. I had a double mastectomy with lots of nodes removed on both sides. Maybe because your nodes weren't removed? I am also on Tamoxofin. Thank you!!!
