Skin biopsy

I was diagnosed with DCIS in November 2012 and had BMX and implant reconstruction with no other treatment. I have some left arm/truncal lymph edema. I've had 3 bouts of cellulitis in different areas of my body since BMX. 2 weeks ago I noticed a red bump on my left breast overnight, that changed daily until it was a small abscess and a second red bump appeared next to it. PS thought it was an infected stitch, but ID dr advised to remove my implants and culture inside the breast to find what bacteria was causing the infection. I had a 10 day course of Keflex in the meantime and the redness did subside somewhat but didn't completely clear. I had the implant removal surgery yesterday and the PS mentioned that she took cultures even though nothing looked amiss. She also sent the abscessed skin for a biopsy. Now I'm concerned about IBC. I'm going to try and attach a couple pics I took. Any thoughts from you experienced sisters while I wait on biopsy results are appreciated!

Sorry you are having such worries. It's really hard to see what's happening in the photos. Yes, MRSA can be dormant and then appear. I have heard that once you have had MRSA once, you are a carrier and are more susceptible to getting it again. I know that MRSA can start out on the skin and if not treated can move to a bone, etc. I can see redness but from what you describe it doesn't sound like IBC. It sounds like an infection. I hope that this is resolved soon and that the results are not cancer..I hope that soon you will only have to worry about an infection!

Hi Tami,
I am so sorry that you're going through this.
I don't know if it will help, but I had an infection, a hematoma and a seroma that had to be drained. I also had a bump very much like this one, and it turned out to be a stitch. My Surgeon just used a scalpel to lift and expose it and then removed it with tweezers.
I hope that this is what you have, because after a double dose of Kefelex I was fine. Take care!

Good morning everyone!
Thanks for all of the responses. All of them are likely possibilities for sure. In fact they have all been mentioned by my doctors...MRSA, infected stitch, etc. It was just the mention of biopsy that sent my brain into over-overdrive! I finally talked to my best friend about it, and just saying it out loud has helped me a lot. I didn't think about it at all yesterday after our talk. It's just a waiting game now, as we all know (and hate).
I will keep you posted when I get the biopsy results.
Tami
