I love aquaphor.  Helps my boys with eczema combined with a steroid cream.  My hands were a wreck and I started using their steroid cream and aquaphor on my hands at night- all better!

Dinner is shepards pie.  I am waiting for DH and DS1 to get back, I am starving!

I put all the pills I take every day in a long box w/big spaces for each day of the week (2x1-1/4x1"deep).  In fact, I have one box for AM and one for PM.  Large Costco refill bottles are in the spice cupboard.  All the rest that are PRN are in a big basket that lives in my closet.  Never had anything but vitamins & aspirin before BC.

I do use Aquaphor for other things, but alternating Miaderm & 100% Aloe Vera on the radiated skin.  Neither are as greasy & don't seem to stain clothes.   I'm definitely pampering myself and will let you all know when I ring the rads bell.

Prime rib lunch was very good.  Ended up with 9 of us at lunch.  Others ordered fried shrimp, Hawaiian chicken, CFS (chicken fried steak for those not used to the South).  Sides ranged from mashed potatoes to squash casserole to green beans to fried onion 'strings' to sweet potato fries to charo beans.  Everything was wonderful.  Tomorrow I'm going for New Mexico Hatch Green Chili Enchiladas - stacked not rolled.  This is the only place in town to get authentic New Mexican food and not TexMex or interior Mexico.  Sopapillas with honey for dessert.  Yum.

Minus, we were in New Mexico one year when the Hatch chilis were being harvested.  At every supermarket vendors were roasting the chilis in the parking lot.  We bought some and froze them in small batches.  The roasted skin peels off easily.

Laurie, glad everything is good with you and your family.

Monica, sounds like you will have a beautiful refurbished kitchen.

Hatch chilis show up in Phoenix...awesome peppers....almost as good as the sera no peppers. :-)

Breakfast is a breakfast bar.  In about 5 minutes, I'm driving the school bus on a route.

I don't believe I've ever seen a Hatch chili. But I REALLY love New Mexico food.

Pork stir fry last night with sweet and sour sauce.

Nance  My mom did the cabbage rolls, and I remember there was rice in them.  Never liked them as a kid, and probably haven't had them since.  I need to try your un-rolls, as I now have a different "adult" pallet and will probably like them.

Minus  Hope those treatments fly by.  I had to drive an hour each way to get my tx but I was not working at the time, and I treated myself to shopping while in the larger town that had more shopping options than what I have here locally.

We leave on Thursday for our NC home to check on the house and maybe do some painting.(Moon...doesn't it feel good to have nice clean newly painted walls?)  Hope they are warmer than they have been. The sun was shining here yesterday and I was literally hanging my head out the window on my way to work...until my nose froze. My mood needs some sunshine!

Carrie, I added some paprika, siracha and cooked brown rice to the cabbage dish.  it was very good. DH (not a cabbage lover) said "Make this again."

Sunshine and 50 degrees today, I can hardly contain my excitement! If only the sciatica would let up . . .

moon - I keep all the meds and supps in a large wire basket (bigger than a shoebox) that I got from the Container Store and refill my old lady pill case (the jumbo sized one) each week.  For a while I did a morning and evening, but I changed my calcium so now it all fits in one.  I do keep the wire basket in the kitchen but it is not in an area of cupboards that gets used a lot - it has extra candles and some serving pieces.

I use old-school freezer tape for stuff that goes into the freezer.  It looks like masking tape and I use a sharpie to write what it is and the date it went into the freezer.  I did this a lot when I would visit my mom, I cooked large pans of things and then portioned them into single serving containers and labeled them and stashed them in the freezer.  I usually put an extra piece of tape with heating instructions too - there were rotating shifts of people taking care of her, not everyone was kitchen-savvy.

Love, love, love cabbage rolls!  Must try the un-rolled version - far less time-consuming!  I do the ground beef and rice filling, rolled up in the cabbage leaf.  I put them around the edge of a large baking pan.  I cut up potatoes and put them in the center of the pan, then cover them with diced bacon that has been cooked with diced onion, and the chopped heart of the cabbage.  The sauce is tomato soup combined with sour cream, which is poured over the rolls, but not the potatoes.  My last name has -ski on the end of it, so cabbage rolls are a staple.  For some reason DH's family has always called them "pigs in blankets" but I am not sure why...

auntie - I had some sciatica issues a number of years ago, and have degenerated disks in my lumbar.  The sciatica happened because of the position of the seat in my car!  My kids were non-driving teenagers, so I was constantly in the car.  I got a new car with an adjustable seat (I tipped it further back) and the sciatica went away quite quickly.  Try some heat, or ice, or both, and some anti-inflammatories, and try a thin pillow that shifts your position when you are sitting.  Maybe it will help?

minus - I did not have rads but I have read on this site that skin to skin contact made the skin irritation worse - I had read about wearing a cotton tank under the bra (if you are wearing a bra) but over your skin creams/oils.  Hope it goes by fast and that your skin holds up well!

Thanks for the advice SK. Position definitely makes a difference. Haven't tried the heat/ice yet, may do later today. I'm on my way to the gym. MO said exercise can help so I'll see what I can tolerate.

    Thanks for the tips everyone.

To mark things for the freezer, I use blue 'painters tape' and magic markers.  If you wrap the painters tape around the package or container, it seals on itself an doesn't come loose after freezing.

Minus, I think have some painter's tape.

The mystery soup is pretty good.  It has white beans, ham, and tomatoes in it.  I had a bowl for lunch yesterday and we're having it for dinner tonight with a salad.  It's a little spicy since I cooked it with Rotel canned tomatoes.

Asparagus was on sale today at Winn Dixie for $1.99 a lb.  I bought a bundle.

Lots of talk about Mardi Gras parades on the local (New Orleans) news.  This is King Cake season and every supermarket has a table piled with colorful boxes of the cakes, some filled with yummy gooey fillings like raspberry, blueberry, cream cheese.  Every month of the year seems to have its food temptations.

I loved the food in New Orleans... and those cakes sound particularly yummy!   Unfortunately was not there for Mardi Gras Scared

Tonights dinner was pork loin and stir fry.   I am trying my best to cut down on carbs.   Cheat a bit at weekends Winking

Hope everyone is well as they can be and can find their happy each day !

Oh man, do I love king cake. I usually make one for Mardis Gras and may have to do so. However, tonight's dinner was a large mixed green salad with leftover bits of ham, roast beef and cheeses. DSIL brought several fresh loaves of sourdough when they visited last week so took one out of the freezer to accompany the salad.

Went to the gym today and rode a recumbent bike for 30 minutes. Boy did that help the sciatica! Amazing! My doc called in a steroid pack for me which I haven't picked up yet, but perhaps I'm on the mend!

Happy to hear it's better nance! Yay!  Tazzy, been missing you. Carole you started it with the King cake talk! One store sells them here but to me they just taste like a big danish. And we have to shove the little baby in ourselves. Liability issues so they don't get blamed if someone breaks a tooth. LOL

Tonight I went out with a friend of mine who lost one of her long time friends. She spoke of her friend the whole yime. I had met her friend a couple of times. I just listened. Sometimes that's all you can do. I had a lovely shrimp in black pepper sauce with plantains and mango salsa. Oh. Yum. Not excessively hot but flavorful. A bit expensive but here in the Midwest shrimp is a treat.

    Much love to all.

Moon, you're right in describing King Cake as a Danish.  The original is like coffee cake in a ring shape with cinnamon flavor.  Sugary icing colored purple, green and gold.  I could resist those but then the bakeries began injecting the gooey fillings.  I really like a combination of cream cheese and raspberry or strawberry.

In recent years the little plastic baby is not inserted but is included.  Yes, because of liability issues.  Moon, I'm amazed that King Cakes are sold in WI.

This morning the fog is pretty thick.  High dew point and warm weather.  I still hope to play golf at 9 am.  Have not played in 2014.

That's the king cake that I make. I leave the filled ones to the professionals lol! I had an exceptional one in Galveston one year that had a raspberry cream filling. Oh my!

I had a wonderful day.  I played golf and then had a buffet lunch with the women golfing group.  So no dinner for me tonight.  I have a chicken breast and chicken thigh thawed (boneless) and will make dh an easy stir fry with chicken strips, colored bell peppers and onions.

I think our real winter weather is over.  But I could be wrong!  One year we had snow in March.  I remember the beautiful white flakes accumulating on vivid azalea blossoms.

Carole, so glad you got to play golf finally. We've enjoyed the 50 degrees temps tremendously. It's going to make those inevitable colder temperatures seem harsh.

Tonight was drunken noodles with spicy Italian sausage. This has colored peppers in it too, making for a very festive looking dish.

Carol- Love that you are back outside, so jealous!

Carrie- Have fun going to the other house!

Last night a baked a chicken and had it with mashed potatoes and butternut squash.  It came out great, DS1 had 4ths and requested a chicken sandwich for lunch.  What kindergartener requests a chicken sandwich?!  We got a major storm on Wednesday and the kids had early release.  Then yesterday afternoon we had heavy snow for about two hours.  I left to pick up the kids and it was just starting to snow and in half an hour we got about 3 inches!  My car got stuck on a hill and cars were passing me and I had traffic coming the other way-  I thought for sure we were going to get hit.  Finally people stopped trying to even go up the hill because they were afraid to get stuck and I was able to back down the hill.  Then I tried to go a different way, got stuck again, got unstuck but then slid side ways.  Me and the boys were freaked out!  Thankfully I was close to my brothers house as my nerves were shot and he was our savior!  He got us all home in one piece.  I don't know what I would do with out him!

I am thinking of making chicken and veggie quesadillas for dinner tonight with some spanish rice.

Yikes, Laurie!! Glad that tuned out safely! Nothing feels worse on the road than no traction on hills!! You guys are slated for more snow tonight. Ugh...... Stay safe!!!

The twenty-something daughter of a friend of mine came over today to network about grad school and borrow materials for her current school job. She had said she'd stop and pick up lunch for us. Sounded great to me! So I was surprised when she showed up with two bottles of seltzer water. LOL! Fortunately, I made  a much needed food store trip yesterday, so made us a spinach salad which we had with hummus and pita bread.....and seltzer! ;) It was so much fun talking with her and learning about her current job experiences....oh the longing for daughter chat! :)

Carole, so nice that you were able to get out on the golf course!

Seltzer water for lunch!  Lacey, glad you had lunch makings on hand!

Laurie, scary story about driving in the snow with sons as passengers.  Glad you are safe.  Your chicken meals sound good.

Tonight's dinner is green beans with small potatoes.  A bit of chopped bacon as seasoning for the beans, which are cooked in chicken broth.  Also chicken breasts and thighs, flattened, lightly covered in panko crumbs and pan-fried in skillet with a little butter and olive oil.

I've been looking up recipes for carrot soup.  Any favorite recipes to recommend?  Some have curry flavoring and some include fresh ginger.  My refrigerator contains an overabundance of carrots since dh and I both bought big bags at Sam's.

Laurie so glad you're safe! Stay that way!

Lacey, glad you had food on hand. Seltzer is not really filling.... LOL

    Carole, glad golf was fun!

Auntie, the King cake is in a grocery store here that isn't a chain but is close in feeling to whole foods or traders joe. When I was in New Orleans I made it a quest to find the tackiest beads I could find. I'll post a pic soon and you can judge if I found it.... LOL

Supper is the chicken breasts I need to cook tiday. Think I'm going asian.....

Glad you're OK Laurie....it's fun driving in the snow UNTIL there a lot of other cars or obstructions that would dent a car...and you certainly had the part after the "UNTIL".

The not so fun driving thing here is the summer rains causing flash flooding.

Seltzer water for lunch???? I'm not sure how that works. :-)

I'm not sure what I'm go in to do for dinner tonight.  A major fire, also involving hazardous materials is burning adjacent to a major freeway interchange....that I need to pass over when I use the freeways..and it's a huge mess...sounds like a city street drive home tonight....

Laurie, scary stuff! One more reason to hate winter.

Lacey, sounds like a perfectly delightful lunch.

Tonight I tried a Tyler Florence fried chicken recipe. It was a bit unusual because it called for roasting the chicken for several hours at 200 degrees, then soaking the pieces in buttermilk and then frying it. It took half the day to get through all these steps and I have to say the results were hardly worth it. It was just ok.

We had 40-50 mph winds today, yike! It was raining horizontally!

laurie - glad your bro was there for the rescue - scary!

carole - I don't have a recipe specifically, but had carrot and ginger soup at the wedding reception in Austria last summer - it was delish!  My adult kids thought it was the weirdest soup ever, but I liked it!  The linked recipe looks pretty close:

SpecialK, thanks for recipe link.  I read the recipe and it looks good.

I seem to be in a lazy mood as far as cooking is concerned.  Maybe it was going 4 wks without cooking!

Tonight we're going out to dinner with neighbors so that fits in with my laziness!

This afternoon I plan to take some of my empty oil and vinegar bottles to have them refilled at the oil & vinegar store.  I'm out of grapeseed oil, plain and flavored.

Carole, I can relate to your low motivation for cooking. Unfortunately I impulsively bought a large package of chicken thighs two days ago, so need to do something with them certainly by tomorrow...or they will get lost in the freezer. :/

Tho tomorrow we have been invited to meet DS2 in Back Bay for dinner...not sure which restaurant yet. DH and I are suspecting some "life news" from him...but the last time we suspected this, when he was dating his long time girlfriend, the night was over, no news, and turned out he had just wanted to seeus.

Oy! Sons....and their minimalist info shares! We are trying not to read too much into the invite, (can you tell how hard this is?!;) but he has been dating someone from another city, and they make every effort to see each other. Maybe she will be here....maybe he is moving out of town.....oh lordy....I think I'll go exercise.

We may go see Nebraska later today. Saw Dallas Buyers Club last night. Didn't realize it was based on a real guy.

Today made a black bean soup since DH had gum surgery  on another quadrant.....so he's off heavy duty chewing for a bit.

I remember both times I delivered "life news" like you're talking about.  :-)

In both cases, the parents gave an enthusiastic yes.

It became a joke that I waited until AFTER we were in Canada and Sharon's parents had answered "no" to the "Do you have any firearms or other weapons?" question posed by the customs agent.

With Mickey, her dad's response was, "Hell yes!  It's about G-- D*** time you two got your act together.  I've been wondering what was taking so long."

lacey - I feel ya on the minimalist info shares from sons!  I sent a cute Valentines card and a little heart box of chocolates to my son in Virginia, and never heard from him.  I then texted him to lodge an amusing complaint about not hearing from him.  Nothing.  So last night I texted him asking him the status of his aliveness.  He was alive but cranky that I had woken him up, lol!  The flip side is my daughter who feels the need to communicate constantly!  Definitely a gender thing!
