Exercise - Working Back to it After or During Treatment

congratulations, Special K. I accepted a long time ago that I am not a runner.
Did an hour of yoga today. Never graceful but always grateful.
Gearing up for 10 inches of snow tomorrow. School is already cancelled.
-
Thanks everyone! My knees still hurt! I did walk with DH last night and was more uncomfortable than I usually am - so I am having to take it slow. I tried to kneel down tonight and it took several minutes to get down, then I had trouble standing back up! I look pretty comical. Good for you ladies who are doing yoga! I need to get out my DVDs and get started again. I feel like I need to figure out how to do some of the poses without undue stress on my lymphedema arm before I do an organized class. I am taking my friend to chemo tomorrow, but hoping to get to the gym late in the afternoon.
-
Today I went grocery shopping and did two loads of laundry. Also had a doctor appointment. I found out yesterday after I went for my walk that the high temperature that day was right at freezing point. It's only going to be a little warmer tomorrow, so maybe I will find some more chores to do indoors. Perhaps unpack a few boxes.....
-
it's been cold here too. specialk, so sorry to hear about your knees. ugh.
i missed my yoga class. apparently they lock the doors just before the class starts. dang. at least they refunded me the class. been a bit depressed lately, so really haven't done much. i go home and i lay down. perhaps i need more coffee. or is there a happy pill someone can lend me?
guess i'll have to settle for rolling over as exercise. :-)
-
gritgirl, sorry to hear you missed your yoga class. I don't have a happy pill, but why not head back over to the "100 days of gratitude" thread? I know it's kind of a cliche, but maybe counting a few blessings will help you cheer up.
If that doesn't work I guess you will just have to go to the animal
shelter and see if they will let one of the cats purr in your ear, or have one of the dogs wag itself silly for you.Added later, I decided to go outside and walk after all. Very chilly today, especially if walking into the wind! I went 7/10 of a mile. Next time, I think I will try for 9/10. Now it's time for a rest.
-
Girls, here's a thought that might cheer all of us up a bit.....we have had lots of COLD, snowy, icy, gray days lately. On Thursday I left work at about 5:00, and got home about 5}45. And it was still a bit light out! So.......contrary to what Punxsutawney Phil might say, SPRING IS COMING!
-
Today I walked 9/10 of a mile. When I can do that twice the same day I'll be ready to tackle the library.
-
gritgirl- hope today is better!
I am so ready for spring. The other day I actually lay on the floor in a sunny spot in front of a window just soaking up all that warmth...it felt so good!
-
Today I was snowed in so all I have done is some chores around the house—and not many of those!
-
curveball. Where do you live that you get all that snow.
Ginger. I'm ready for spring too. Friend came over and walked my dogs. At least they got a walk
-
@gritgirl, I live in Washington, near the state capitol of Olympia. It doesn't take much for me to be snowed in, because I have no chains for my car and at this point no shoes that would keep my feet dry if I walked any distance in the snow. We got about 3 or 4 inches of it here. This is my car sitting in the driveway earlier today. As you can see, I need to get the manual out and see how to re-set the time-stamp in the camera. The snow had completely melted off the car by the time it got dark, and a lot of what was on top of the hedge is gone too. It's supposed to be in the 40's tomorrow, so most of the rest of it will probably be melted in another 24 hours.
-
Curveball, that is a lot of snow for you. I lived in Washington state for 6 years as a kid. My dad was stationed at Ft. Lewis. Snow definitely was not part of the gig there.
It is still very cold here. Too cold. But I'll be walking tonight.
-
my exercise today was shopping and errands. I made four stops on one trip. I'm pretty tired but two weeks ago I wouldn't have been able to do that much in one day. @gritgirl, you didn't walk because it's too cold—I didn't walk because it's too wet. woops, I misread what you wrote. You are walking in spite of the cold. Way to go! Darn it, my formatting won't stick! That part about not walking is supposed to be struck through.
As I expected, the snow is almost gone. It has warmed up and rained today, and that melts it really fast.
Now it's nap-time.
-
Today's exercise, brief grocery shopping trip and walk 7/10 of a mile, back-to-back.
-
curve - yay for progress!
Went to the gym - yay for me! Did some leg presses - will be interested to see if the knees hurt tomorrow. Also did some elliptical which hurt a bit when I started but I stayed with it for a bit and was more comfortable.
-
more snow coming our way. hoping for a school day. :-) we'll see. snow starts tonight at 7 or so but still gonna make yoga, dang it.
good for you, specialk. hope the knees do even better.
-
today's exercise, walk 9/10 mile. I didn't need to take a nap afterwards, either.
-
curve - yay! You are stretching out the distance, and no nap - awesome!
gritgirl - I am excited to say that the elliptical and leg presses from last night did not cause any knee issues. I have begun to take my joint care supplements again also, so I am happy that the combo seems to be improving things. Be careful in the snow!
-
I walked a different route today, which I thought was longer than the one I have been doing, but it turns out it's a little shorter—only 8/10 of a mile. I also did a little bit of gardening when I got back, pulling the weeds out of a flower pot.
-
I walked 1.1 miles today, which is as far as to the library. Then I went out shopping for a kitchen faucet, and now I'm pretty beat. I don't think I better try walking to the library and back quite yet, but I'm getting there.
-
where is everyone? I have nothing to report. I did not walk, because it's been pouring down rain all day. I did get out of the house to run a few errands, but that's it other than a load of laundry or maybe two.
@SpecialK I am glad to hear that the supplements are helping.
@gritgirl, I hope you are OK and no slippy-slidey on the snow. Did you get to your yoga class?
-
We are getting so much snow here in ct. It is hard to do much of anything!
I did a half hour on the elliptical when we were stuck home on Thursday. Last night, I actually just walked up and down the aisles of the grocery store to add some steps to my pedometer. It is snowing again today and I am being very lazy and watching House of Cards on Netflix.
-
i was very sick last week. Someone passed me a cold. I did get to yoga and 1/4 way through got a bloody nose. Stupid blood thinner.
Been laying very low. Had to get out Friday for ct scan and treatment. Woohoo. Tomorrow off from work so will clean house. We're supposed to get warmer weather.
-
@gritgirl, I hope that cold is going away fast and you get an "all clear" on your scan. I took advantage of a break in the rain today to go for a walk. I intended to go 7/10 of a mile (short one in case it started raining again). When I got to where I turn towards home for that distance, it looked like staying clear a little while longer, so I decided to go for 9/10. Then I accidentally went past where I should have turned for 9/10 of a mile and walked all the way around the long block. I haven't looked on google maps to figure out how far that is, but I'm sure it's over a mile, maybe approaching a mile and a quarter. If it is that far, maybe next time I will try for the library and back.
-
Today I only walked 7/10 of a mile. I checked google maps and my previous walk was 1.1 miles, the same as to the library, but I didn't try to get there today. I don't trust the rain to hold off long enough for me to get there and back. Maybe next time.
-
curve - you are doing well to get out daily, don't worry too much about the distance!
gritgirl - hope you are feeling better!
-
@SpecialK, my walk has been "called on account of rain (or snow)" several times over the last two weeks. We've been having a spell of really wet weather and I still don't feel robust enough to be comfortable taking a chance of getting really soaked. If it's pouring down rain, or there's snow on the ground, I stay in.
-
weather is finally warming up here. Went to yoga last night
Got scan results. Things moving in right direction.
Tomorrow I'll be cleaning house.
Specialk hope knees are better
Curve. It will stop raining some day
-
curve - in my book, you are doing great on the exercise, but having lived in many cold climates I understand your reluctance to get wet and cold if you don't have to - better to be safe.
gritgirl - yay!
-
my exercise for today? Chasing the damn dog every time she got out the door when the A/c guy came in. The up side? I now have a/c
