Christy - Yay! Not perfect news but waaaaaay better than what it could have been. There are many very savy ladies on the LCIS forum who can help you navigate these waters.  I am very happy that it wasn't anything more serious, though you might talk to a doctor about seeing a genetic counselor to find out your risk of developing anything else.  Hugs!!

hey Christy, you sound kinda like me.  My mom had invasive bc and I later was diagnosed with LCIS.  For me this was sort of good (as any of this can be) cause it gave me the early warning that things were going wrong on my breasts.  There is a lot of research and thinking for you to do.  One thing that I had was a genetic test to see if I was BRCA+.  As it turned out, mine was negative, but you might want to look into this test.

Right now you are just fine.  LCIS is not invasive and cannot turn into cancer.  However, it sets up the fore knowledge that you may be more likely than average to get a breast cancer. This is why they often want you to take tamoxifen or a similar drug.  Anyway, it is great you do not have cancer now!

Christy-----I was diagnosed with LCIS over 10 years ago and my mom also had bc (ILC). Even with the elevated risk of that combination (they had me at 36.6% lifetime risk with a 4.8% 5-year risk), my docs all said bilat mastectomies were not medically necessary. I have been doing high risk surviellance all these years of alternating mammos and MRIs every 6 months with breast exams on the opposite 6 months, I took tamoxifen for 5 years and now I have been taking evista for over 4 years for further preventative measures. I still see my oncologist once a year. Fortunately, I haven't needed any further biopsies in all these years.  Ask your doctor for a referral to an oncologist if you haven't already. they can help you figure out your individual risk and talk over options. (the 3 standard options for LCIS are closer monitoring, tamoxifen, or bilateral mastectomies.) Depending on any other risk factors, you may want to consider seeing a genetic counselor. but since LCIS is non-invasive, their is no rush, you can take any time you need to research, talk to others, get 2nd opinions if you wish, or just to let it all sink in. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to talk,

    anne

Christycain I am so thankful that you have finally gotten an answer. I hope that your news continues to be positive and am glad you can be proactive. Be blessed and remember... when you are afraid cling to Isaiah 41:10 "Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness."  ((((hugs))))

Hello, I 'm very scared also, hence the very late post. I keep reading th the words of hope, am confused about the 80% benign also. I had a Birad5 score and didn't hear back from my doctor until today. I have a biopsy schedule but am worried about swollen lymph node too, my doctor did not give me alot of ino which is aways scary but she did say that she will try to speed things up by having a breast specialist call and actually do the biopsy. This sounds very serious and I am mostly still feeling so surreal. I've been reading about the chances of lots of breast masses not being cancerous except for this catagory and don't know why mine is high and why more chance of worse results , I need to try to sleep, am still up at my office typing away when I should be sleeping before a very busy day tomorrow. Blessings.

Calirose, we are here for you! I know it is scary and the waiting and fear can drive you to the edge of insanity, but hang on and know that you are not alone. You can PM me anytime you need and I will be here for you. I understand the not sleeping and honestly, when it gets to the point that you must sleep, take  a couple of Benadryl and it will knock you out for a few hours. FYI~ don't waste your money on over the counter sleep aids. They mostly contain Tylenol and Benadryl, so hence the suggestion. Be blessed and Isaiah 41:10

    Hello,

As i know there is somehow the treatment of breast cancer; So i think your mom will be absolutely fine with the treatment. You should not worry anymore and should take care of mom with full dignity. Be strong and make your mom strong to fight the cancer.
