IVF after ER+/PR+ DCIS?
Hi all,
I know the best answer to my question is probably to call my doctor, but in the meantime, I thought I'd see if this community can point me to any resources.
I just turned 40 and DH and I have been trying unsuccessfully to conceive #2 for 8 months (DS is 21 months old). We are contemplating trying IVF, and had an initial consultation today with a fertility clinic in our area. We have lots of diagnostics to do first, but if we are good candidates for IVF, then it will likely involve "hormonal support" as part of the process - PR for sure from what I've read, maybe ER as well.
So my tumor was 100% ER and 100% PR receptive so I am wondering if I would put myself at risk of recurrence (if, god forbid, any stray DCIS cells were left behind) by doing IVF.
Have there been any studies done on this? Thanks for any information you can provide or point me to!

Have an HSG and then maybe try one or two IUI cycles with 100 or 150 Clomid before going to IVF. A cycle is only one month long and you may get lucky without injectibles like I did. I'm crossing my fingers for you.

I wouldn't do it. . I think ivf played a factor in me developing BBC at 36 .

Hi all,
Thanks for the comments. My breast surgeon signed off on my doing IVF even without the special protocol I will undergo that reduces my exposure to estrogen - it was developed especially for BC survivors with ER+ tumors.
For anyone interested in research on this topic, I came across one interesting study here:

Look at this web site ivfbreastcancer..com , you can do a supplement protocol to reduce your risks of recurrence . Dr Veltman is a geneticist doing a study on ivf and breast cancer for NIH and will consult with you. Best

A fun little update: I'm pregnant!
It happened au natural -- I guess the prospect of IVF scared my body into shaping up! Would love good thoughts for a safe and healthy pregnancy. :-)
-
Congrats!, better to do it natural than with ivf
