Modified Citrus Pectin ~ is anyone here taking it?
Good morning. My name is Wendy and I'm St IV with one met to my spine.
darn it I typed up this long, involved message and then poof I lost it! lol
OK so I'll try this again, but make it much shorter
My SIL has worked for a naturopath for 20 years and strongly suggested I take MCP. Here is a link to her article
http://www.eatingalive.com/message-from-dr-matsen-november-2010/
Is anybody here taking MCP? Know anybody that is? Have any pros or cons to share?
I OK'd it with my onc's PA and take it weeks 2 and 3 (I am doing AC chemo X 4) and stop it during my chemo week. I take 18 capsules a day. I plan to continue when I'm done with chemo and add curcumin to the mix.
I'd appreciate some feedback ~ positive or negative. If there is already a thread on this subject please link me to it. I searched back a few pages but couldn't find anything much.
Thanks ladies

Hi CarpeVinum,
I've been researching MCP lately after reading posts from some people on these boards who are taking it (who I hope will chime in!) It does seem to have some good research behind it (here's one article: http://www.newswise.com/articles/new-research-modified-citrus-pectin-a-potent-anti-cancer-therapy ) and so far I haven't read of any people having problems aside from stomach upset. I am getting close to adding it to my daily "regime".

Thanks for replying and for the link Fallleaves!
If you're interested, I've found the cheapest place to buy it is iherb.com. I ordered a second bottle on Thursday and received it Fri afternoon! If you use coupon code BNW733 you will save an additional $10 off your first purchase of $40 or more.
For the second bottle, I got the powdered form. It is so difficult for me to swallow 18 capsules a day (6 X 3) after radiation left my esophagus so raw and inflamed. Hopefully the powder will go down a little easier
p.s. this post sounds like I'm an iherb employee but honestly I'm not lol. Just passing on info for a good deal

CarpeVinum, Hi, I've been taking it (Pecta Sol C) daily for almost 2 years. I've let it run out a few times and had to reorder online because the healthfood stores don't carry the same brand. So, while waiting for it to arrive, I've had to switch brands, which I have had some reservations about. Anyway, so far so good.
Down sides are that it is expensive. But I guess if it works then I'll keep it going. I've questioned it myself because I've read that there is some question about whether or not the molecules are actually broken down enough to enter the blood stream. But then I'll read a positive report like the one Falleaves just posted (thank you) and I just decide to keep it going.
I moved away from my holistic dentist before I got all of the mercury removed from my mouth so I still have a few fillings on my right side. Supposedly the stuff pulls out heavy metal toxins from the body, necessary for healthy immune system.
Pecta Sol C is the kind that I take and supposedly is most molecularly (if that's a word) available and capable of the ones on the market. Also, it is the one used in the studies and is currently in clinical trials for prostrate cancer.

If anyone has access to the medical journals, here's a list of studies on citrus and citrus pectin for cancer.

Also, There are several discussions about MCP on this site if you do the search, and a ton of info if you google.

yes it is expensive. I too have some amalgam fillings, & there's bad solder in my tapwater from when the pipes broke here 40 years ago. (I drink maine spring water, but shower in the regular.) I juice halves of whole lemons & bits of orange peels & all regularly.

lightandwind ~ yes Pectasol~C is the one I take and yes it's expensive isn't it? I figure well worth it if it works. I still have two mercury fillings in my mouth but recently read that removing them can release more heavy metals than leaving them in place. I'll have to research further before continuing with the dental work.
abigail48 ~ interesting about the juicing. I do have an expensive juicer that I haven't used even once since my initial dx. Maybe I should drag that out and start juicing again!
The fact that the MCP is good for chelation is a definite plus and I may start my 15 year old dd on it after I've tested it a while longer. Not for recurrence prevention for her, but because she was diagnosed with vaccine injury and is on the autism spectrum so I think removing the heavy metals from her brain could have a huge impact on her mental well-being.

Thanks for the information Light, and thanks for the source info for MCP, CarpeVinum. It helps to be able to save some money on supplements that get expensive quickly! That would sure be great if it could have a health benefit for your daughter, too.
