Hi all. Everything went great. Lots of pain. But drugs are good. I don't recall my ribs hurting as much as they do. I think the drain is sitting against them !

    Thanks for you support

    Hugs. Judy

Sorry it took so long for my update -- I had a nipple sparing mastectomy with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction two weeks ago and I'm doing well. The worst part for me was the nausea from all the meds which lasted about 10 days.  I had my last drain removed yesterday - what a relief!  I ended up going with Dr. Vargas and Dr. Rad for reconstruction and was very happy with both doctors (especially Rad!).  I need to find a MO now.  Dr. Vargas recommended Dr. Wilkinson in Reston, but I would like to see at least one more, especially one with a very open mind because I don't think I will do well with hormonal therapies.  Any recommendations?

    Thanks!

yay good to hear from you LorettaMc!  I have Dr. Wilkenson, who I like a lot, but I've seen some positive feedback on Dr. Denduluri (sp?).

    Judy,

Thinking of you and hope you continue to do well.  Rest, take it easy.  Distract yourself.  The demands of life will be waiting for you, as well as the joys.

Hope to see you at the next luncheon.

    Hugs,

    Peggy

Hi, all.  Great to see you today.  The Turkey Tail Mushroom supplement is made by Fungi Perfecti under the brand name of Host Defense.  Paul Stamets is the originator of it.  His mother was Stage IV.

I have found the advice of the new place I visited, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, to be very well-rounded and not just medical/pharmaceutical.  To summarize, they told me my best defenses in addition to Femara are Metformin, baby aspirin, Turkey Tail mushrooms, and 30 min of exercise 6 days a week at 100 paces or more per minute, combined with 5 fruits and veggies.  Their nutrition department told me one dairy per day, up to 3 soy products per day (excluding soy powders and concentrates), 25 grams of fiber (very important, which I did not know, for metabolizing any estrogen that's left) and one cruciferous vegetable a day (learned that arugula counts so I have that daily in salad).

    Edith,

Finally I got to see you and I'm sorry I was at my worst.  Wanted to be more helpful but was preoccupied by the heart valve thing.  Hoping to be more emotionally present by next month.

Excited that you have only one chemo to go.  Every day after you stop chemo you will gain just a tiny bit more energy until finally you find yourself walking up those stairs without even thinking about it!

    Hugs,

    Peggy

Hi ladies, i am in Northern VA too.  DX in Jan and going thru neoadjuvant chemo now.   Yes i have been taking Paul Stamets mushrooms for years.  It is the very good for your immune system.  but my oncologist Dr Mary Wilkinsin in Fairfax ( highly recommended) will only permit me to take Vit D3 and fish oil ( I take krill) while on chemo.  so i am not doing the chaga, other mushrooms and enzymes i used to take.   but am taking some garlic and tumeric supplements as they are just food.  any comments or advice on that?

My last chemo was in mid-January, and by spring, I was wearing a very short haircut--around April or so.  I think you'll see something very soon and you'll be ready for the summer to go wig-free.

    Relocated,

I stopped wearing the wig about three months after final chemo. It came in thin, gray, and curly, but now (14 months Pfc) it is returning to the original color, thickness, and texture.  I got mine colored when it first came in...that helped a lot.

I wouldn't worry too much as hair comes back after act. I heard that taxotere has small rate of not returning.
