    Good Morning,

So I went for my 5 year mammo yesterday. Just finished tamoxifen a couple of weeks ago. Have an appointment with the oncologist tomorrow to see what and if is next as I am pre-meno.

During my mammo they felt they could not "squish" my breast in the "scar tissue" area as they did the last couple of years so they are sending me for an US. The technician said the radiologist is being cautious. Said she tried with the Spot Compression to get a better picture of the scar but couldn't.

I had a breast MRI 6 months ago, and have had yearly, this year and years prior they confirmed No Changes.

So geez. What am i supposed to think of all this.

    Origianlly I had a very small 4mm and 1mm grade 1 tumor.

Sucks as I was ready to say goodbye after 5 years and move on from this.

    Sigh

Me again...seeing as nobody has responded to me...lol Kiss

So had my ultrasound which showed nothing. They are now sending me for an MRI. (i just had 1 six months ago that was all clear)...anyway,,, apparently there is a tiny 6mm spot on my mammo that is brighter than last year and no matter how much squishing they just can't tell.  Referring to it as a Nodular Density.  The breast healthy lady says that it could just be the mammogram and the interpretation, but that is worth the check.

Kinda stressed that maybe this recurrance in breast (even though they all tell me that i am at low risk) but at the same time could just be the darn scar tissue.  My breast is so much harder than it was the last couple of years because of rads.

    Anyone go through this?

    Anyone? Anyone?

Hi Koshka1,  I'm in a slightly different boat from you...DCIS and I stopped taking tamox after 11 months and no rads. Anyway, I write to commiserate with you. I go for my mammo next week and get nervous every year and I swear I feel a lump on both sides!  It's good that your docs are at least being proactive for you. I hope all turns out well. Hugs, Janine

Hi, J9W, I had dcis in my breast too. That is how they found my tumors so small.  Within the grade 1 dcis were 2 tiny grade 1 tumors.

Mammo time is hell. There are no other words for it.

The only peace i get is from other survivors

    Hugs...Kosh

I always found it interesting that mammo time was the most stressful time in my life. Everyone is cheery saying "look everything's okay" while your still stressed over the worry beforehand.

I had found my original BC 18-1/2 yrs ago and had JUST turned 29 when diagnosed. Now at age 47 I've found another lump and will undergo surgery to figure out what it is (they can't figure it out based on mammo/ultrasounds). My take on it is this...take the sucker out and figure out what it is...I'd rather do that then fool around with it and not know.

My original was ER-/PR- (then had no other testing that they did). It was a huge mass both solid and liquid. They use to remove all the lymph nodes they could find too. I had chemo and the type of radiation they did then (its now completely different/better). I was a stage III.

The changes (thickening) of the breast tissue after radiation (or at least the type that they did in 'my day') is completely normal. I've dealt with that thicker/harder ridge/tissue for 18+ years and even now think that its bigger than it was in the beginning. Don't get me wrong, mot people (some doctors and even the hubby) cannot tell unless I say something...and even then they look at me perplexed. I can fell the difference in my own breast tissue....

Given that, you are a strong weapon in this fight. You know what YOUR normal feel/texture is....keep up with your doctor appointments, but don't forget to check yourself too!!!! I found BOTH of mine...before the mammos!

Hi NG55, thank you. Everything turned out ok. Turned out to be nothing. Now I am dealing with high blood pressure issues and wondering if it has anything to do with having breast radiation on my left side.   Sigh...never ends.....

Koshka1,  you probably have high blood pressure from the stress of mammos and other tests! Happy I feel my tension rise every year when it's 'that time' again. SO glad for you it turned out ok. J9

Hi, well yes, anytime before testing I turn into a nervous wreck. However, there is no testing right now so just dealing with the blood pressure issues. However, I find BP much easier to contend with than Breast Cancer so ...so the fight continues!!

    Hugs and be strong

PS...prior to testing...can't eat, can't sleep, I don't enjoy life..i walk around like a zombie. Hate it. But every year same thing.
