Hi Junetom, I can't address recurrence issues, but I know what costochrondrotis feels like. It is a deep ache in your sternum, and for me, it was triggered by sleeping on a bad (ancient) mattress for two weeks while in vacation, although I'd had it pop up at various times before since I was in my early 20s (when I went to the doc thinking I was having a heart attack). It is arthritis and so related to general inflammation. Tylenol helped as did yoga and a return to my good mattress. I hope this is all that it is.

Hi junetom. Sorry your having such pain. I was diagnosed with Tietze syndrome several years ago. It's similar to costrochondroidis, but one main difference is intense chest pain. I can go months or even years with no problem and one day it will flare up. One time the pain was very intense similar to a heart attack. Most other times it's just a general sore area when it is inflamed. I take anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen at the first sign of it. Glad to hear you are getting checked out. Google or check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tietze_syndrome

    Good luck!
