Hi ladies!
After listening to your weather reports from up north, I almost feel guilty posting here. This was certainly a good year to head south for some time this winter.
We have a lot of animal lovers on this thread. When translated, that means we have lots of good-hearted, caring ladies here! :-) Although I now have the 2 cats (who are extremely spoiled), I also love dogs. We had a Brittany Spaniel when my son was growing up. He was just part of our family. I would have a dog now but our lifestyle is too hectic and we're not always home to take it out and give it the attention it would really need.
We enjoyed a round of golf on a scenic course today and are headed into Fort Myers shortly to join in a birthday party for one of our Illinois friends who is also wintering here. I am certainly enjoying the sunshine and warmth. the time goes so quickly. We are about to the half-way mark for this year's stay. Maybe you gals can chase away all that winter "white" for me before we have to head home. :-)
Keep the quotes coming, Jackie!

LET IT SNOW , Seems to be the theme here this week! Stayed in today watching the snow. Day off from the snow tomorrow , a bigger storm on Wed. and another they say on Sunday! At least we aren't freezing like the last few weeks!
We haven't had a doggie since 2006 when our Buddy died. DH decided we travel too much. After 2 weeks I was going crazy with no pets. Our kitty had passed the year before, she was 21! So he reluctantly agreed to a kitty. Well you can guess whose the one the cat follows everywhere, yep, DH. She is his cat! I call her our Holstein , she is mostly white , with 5 black spots and a black tail. The most intelligent cat we have ever had. Understands soooo much. She is around 14, adopted from the shelter.
Watched the Puppy Bowl and The Kitten Bowl instead of the Super Bowl. Then I had to watch Downton Abbey!
Stay warm and dry. Jean

Ritajean, it's fun to read about your "snowbird" adventures. Was the B Day party fun?
-
Rita Sally does not speak for all of us, cuz u'r Ill buddies are freezing and all kinds of more snow is coming and this is where u live so i's easy for her living in Nevada.

-
Hi all, I had no internet for part of last week and have not been on here for awhile...
I was snowbound today - a day off from work but I have to make up the time in May.
Chevy, was so sorry to hear about Lacee...you loved her so much and gave her a wonderful life. Her little life was complete.
As Jackie noted, it is the master plan that our beloved pets don't live as long as we do.
I enjoyed the car photos and stories.Mommarch, so sorry to hear about Dh's accident. I hope he is starting to feel better. That must have been a shock to both of you. The roads can be quite dangerous with the deer. My Dh has hit at least 3...i have narrowly missed more than that.
Many years ago we were driving out of the Grand Canyon national park about 5 in the morning heading back to Denver. It had snowed overnight (in March) and no plows had been through. As we drove dowout of the snow and onto the plains, DH started picking up speed as I settled in for a nap. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a very large dark shadow about to cross in front of us. I was speechless but managed to barely say the word "horse" to DH...he ended up swerving sharply to avoid hitting the horse which would have been quite disastrous. He never saw it.Well, 2 more snow storms coming after tomorrow. I can't even think about getting out there at 7 am.
It is DS's BD in Chicago...I have yet to visit him in the 16 months he's been there. He says he's had enough of winter...Stay warm & be safe.
-
Joan this is one of the worst winters we have had in many yrs. So I can see why u'r son is not happy here, the last 2 were actually not so bad. It's going to be another week of cold and snow alternating. So this goes on again. I hate waking up this early it really screws up my whole day, then I'm crabby too. Well that part comes easily for me anyway.
-
Oh my! Crabby Cammi? Couldn't happen! It was supposed to snow here last night... AND all day today and tomorrow, and for the rest of eternity....
Thank you Joan.... so sweet of you.... And yes Jackie, I would have hated for something to happen to us, and leave Lacee! She loved us as much as we loved her.... Such a beautiful little fur-baby she was...
Joan, that must have been SO scary! We quit leaving for fishing trips before dawn, just for that reason... ALL the critters and "things" are out tromping around at that time of "day"....
I watched some of the Kitten Bowl.... didn't know about the Puppy Bowl though! I KNOW they were better than the GAME...Ha! I mean even the commercials were better, as usual! I mostly crochet'd while all that "nothing" was going on with the Bronco's... Won't be long, and Nascar will be here!
Look at what my online Picassa did! I uploaded my picture, to send to my Daughter's, and I DID put a string of lights on it, with all the shells, flowers and butterflies, etc, but Picassa made them TWINKLE! Well, I'm impressed....Ha! They did it with a "snow" picture also!

-
Wow , I'm impressed too! I can't even figure how to put my picture on the site! Hmmm just figured it out!
Lunch with a friend and grocery shopping today, before the next snow storm. Joan , we didn't get as much as you, here in Orange co. But the next 2 is supposed to be our turn! Jean
-
Hi Cami. While I do enjoy Ritajean's posts, I do worry about you snow people. Although we are finally getting some snow, we are way, way, way behind for the year, so summer will be very droughty. I can't be jealous of all the eastern snow because of all the problems it is causing. We are supposed to be icy this morning. I hate icy roads and I have to drive to radiation this morning. It's not far but I have started to dread each morning ... plus, for some reason, I am scared. Well, I am rambling so I'll say ...
Have a good day everyone ...
-
Joan, I missed your post. With the time difference, you are probably already at work. I hope your commute went okay. You lost your internet, but it doesn't sound like you lost light or heat ... I really, really hope you had both.
Chevy, the twinkling is amazing ... Is your daughter your Picasso? ... very talented!
Bonnets, I don't know how to upload pictures either. Enjoy your lunch.

This is the other one I posted on Foley's thread... It is looking out from our front porch! I thought that blue sky, with the icy branches was so pretty!
And the next day, Picassa had added the snow! I was so happy!

No, my Daughter's didn't do this, or even know how...Ha! The Picassa program, has added this to some online photo's you upload...
I DID send this to them though....
-
And this one of Lacee, and where she had been laying! She was our "snow-dog"....

She would be COVERED with snow, and wouldn't come in until we made her!
We always had to "sweep" her off.... Ha!
But Picassa also added falling snow to this one!
-
Hi folks popping in with a couple of posts that I dropped on other threads This ones on a drug link
sassyIn case you don't have this link. It's a drug site that is great even though it was done by the government. Why is it GREAT! 1. after putting the drug name in the search box and the list is pulled up the first drug manufacturer is the one that originated the drug. 2. importance---all the pre-approval clinical trial documentation is there 3. all post marketing data is there 4. hyperlinks throughout to connect within the report for easy referencing between topics.
-
Thank you Sassy! I put that site in my Favorites! Are you old enough to be on here? Ha, ha!

-
Sally...it is ok to ramble. Especially if something is bothering you !! We probably can't fix it, but we can be here for you to lean on anyhow. We are in the middle of our snowstorm. Slow going on the way home. It didn't really seem too slick ( thank goodness ) as most of the ice melted already......but the snow was coming down heavy enough that I think most did not want to make quick moves.....wanted to make sure you were free and clear of traffic for what you needed to do.
This has been so far the winter from h***. I'm saying that quietly because I don't want it to get any worse or stretch out any longer than it has too. We have gotten along ok for the most part, but it just seems that I no sooner get to put my boots up for a day or two and here we go again.
Chevy, Picasa has made those posts/pics of yours really spectacular. Really adore the one of your shell hanging. Really pretty now.
Thinking about all of you....hoping your weather will settle down for you too.
Blessings
Jackie

Oh cammi....I sincerely do feel sorry for my fellow Illinois ladies! This has been a terrible winter and you just haven't had a break in the weather for months. I am worried about the stray cat at my place in Illinois. We have a gal who is coming to feed it once a day but we live down a long lane and I doubt if she could get in the past few days. If that poor cat makes it through the winter, it is indeed a survivor. I wish I could have caught it before we left and taken it to the shelter before we left but I couldn't get close enough and I NEVER anticipated this horrible winter.
Sally, the party was fun! It was held at a bar/grill and was complete with music, beverages, food, birthday cake and very good friends. Of course, most things are fun when shared with good friends! :-)
-
We have had wind gusting to 65 MPH today, has calmed down now. Our High by Thrus. is to be 36.
Very Fatigued today, going to hit the hay very soon.
Hope all are well
-
Hi everyone----
Chevy I am so impressed with u'r pictures, how u get involved with all the picture posting is amazing, oh or u have nothing else going on in u'r life.
OK this weather is just insane--Everything is haywire, cold, snow more coming- ice cold coming more big snow coming--This isn't winter this is Artic weather for sure and ice is the worst thing anyone can drive on. And the traffic is awful, even the trains are all messed up still--it's like a world written by Jules Verne and we are the cast and crew. It has to stop soon, Right? Oh well it will.
-
I can't believe how much it's snowing for you in the midwest & east. Can you even imagine the pioneers lived thru winters like this with no electricity or running water? My grandma talked about chilblains. My understanding is that it's swollen knees caused by extremely cold weather. She said it really hurt.
-
Well, it is snowing everywhere from CO to ME today. I am up - can't sleep after a "tv nap"...but work calls in 4 hours. I am waiting to see if I have to drive in the sleet-on-snow-followed by rain - followed by evening freeze today. My hours are 8 am to 9 pm so I will not escape some of this.
Mommarch, the temps in TX are so extreme this winter. Stay warm, and rest up. How is Dh feeling?
Ritajean, it's ok you can talk about FL, I can take it ...

I am glad you are enjoying time with friends. Did you say you are getting a permanent place in FL?Cammi, I talked to DS tonight for his BD and he is CA dreaming right now....that's where my other DS lives. It is snowing again in Chicago and pretty much everywhere.
Chevy, I have never seen that effect from Picasa. I am not sure I want them to add effects without me choosing, but I'd love to try. It seems everything"Google" takes over my computer. But I love love the lights and the snow. The CO blue sky is a dream always in my subconscious! Fun! And your Lacee pic is precious.
Stay warm and be safe...let's keep that power on across the US. I may pack a pillow and sleeping bag for work!

There’s
always room for expressing our uniqueness and love and changing the world with
it, no matter what our position in life. I
saw on the news a New York City subway conductor who sent out poetry, love, and
messages of good cheer over his loudspeaker system instead of the usual “Stand
clear of the closing doors.”
He is a true original.
So are you—if you will simply learn to express your originality.
Share your life with those who are also on the journey and you will
change the world. Bernie

Cammi, you little brat! Ha, ha! Yes, I have lots of things to do.... sometimes I even DO them! And I didn't even DO them, anyway! I mean the falling snow, and lights!
I made the shell hanging, but Picassa added the "twinkling" lights!
Jackie, TELL her! She is assuming I'm not DOing anything here in my life! Okay, that's it! NEXT time, I'm taking her over to feed those chickens.... THAT will show her I DO have a temporary job! Just like her! TELL that little Cammi, that you will go shut her door, and lock her in her room! You are closer to her than I am!
I have lights on it, and I took the picture, thinking they might show up when I had them on, but they must have seen that, and made them twinkle. They weren't even twinkling lights, Ha! But they left one picture of the scene, and added another with the enhancements... (big word there Cammi).....
And it is soooooooooooooooo cold out there! It is minus 6! With a windchill of minus 33 below! Yikes, and more Yikes!
Morning Joan! Yes, that's why I took that picture! Our blue sky IS gorgeous, whenever we can FIND it! The sun is supposed to come out today, but stay cold, and then snow even more...
Isn't anybody up yet? xoxoxoxo
-
Good morning.....or should I say good, cold, snowy and due here to do pretty much what Cami said. More snow they say and it will get even colder. I think we may be in a Jules Verne vortex. It is tiresome that's for sure. I do think my gratefulness quotient is going to keep rising and it will be over the top when Spring arrives. We did go out for a bite to eat last night.....and since ( oh there is a God ) we did not get the sleet that had been alluded to as a possibility, the driving was not too bad. Still need caution...but not too nerve-wracking when you don't have to fight ice too. I hope we can make it all the way through this storm without that.
I would just bundle up and stay inside, but my feral kits need to eat so I will be out and about today. I hope the bank will be open. I got there just in time to get some cash yesterday.....they were closing early and in fact, many of the local businesses did. They don't do that too often here. I think maybe that threat of possible sleet may have done it.....but am glad that people got a break. So many people just have to be out in this.....mail people, firemen, police, hospital workers, clinics, filling stations, supermarkets. Nice for those who did to get a break.
Joan -- what a fantastic thing to wish for....power to stay on for everyone. Hope it turns out that you don't have to go in today. Crossing my fingers double here.
Hoping for all.
Blessings
Jackie

I know you can have chilblains on your hands. I think it's when they get raw with big cracks.
-
Cami ... wow, great Jules Vern comparison. I can feel it.
Wren, I remember the term chilblains. I see you are on the west coast too. Sometimes, when thinking about the regions east of here, I feel like I am on another continent.
Joan, driving home in the dark seems scary. Can't you leave early? If you take a sleeping bag, is there a couch to curl up on?
Chevy, stay warm. Are the chickens warm?
Jackie, glad that you got out for dinner.
Hi, MaryLW. Has cold weather hurt your plants. I know some FL plants are tender.
-
The snow storms from the west and mid-west got here today. We got a foot, with sleet for icing and more coming tonight and Sunday. Love snow, to look at, when it is fresh and clean, from inside a warm house! I'm getting too old for this shoveling thing. We need to get another blower, ours bit the dust a few years back. DH rides the loader, I've always done the walks. Used to love going out in storms to help him , when he had a snow removal business. Now I'd rather have someone else do it!
Hopefully the roads will be clear tomorrow. Supposed to get my hair cut.
Hmm, cable going a little crazy! Snow and ice!?
Take care , stay warm.
-
Ok I have never heard of chilblains before in my entire life. And yes that's along one.
A little touchy are we Chevy? U know our Jackie will do nothing to add to u'r evil plan for me--she's a sweetheart more than most, much more actually. She would never stoop to our--oops u'r level.
-
Its only 27 in the Davis Mts, Low tonight is to be 16 and 20% chance of sleet and snow. It is getting foggy, so will probably have freezing fog.
DH is doing good. Ins. Co called today and they are towing the truck to the tire shop in Alpine. We have a $1000 deductible, so I hope it is only a tire, rim and a few parts.
When it is cold like this I wish it would just snow and at least give us some moisture.
Have a good day
