Is anyone experiencing this?  My dr doesn't acknowledge as a side effect but readily got me on antacid.  Im just taking tums now, but man, I never had heartburn before and now its almost every time I eat.  Anyone having this?

Hi joanp6! I had it also. I had never had heartburn too much before treatment for BC. It has subsided somewhat now but my last Herceptin treatment was Dec. 26. I had a friend who also was triple+ and the first thing she told me from her experience was to get prepared to have heartburn and be really tired after working all day while on Herceptin.

I was considered a high energy person before this, so I thought maybe it would take me to avg.  But, Im wiped out before the end of a long day.  I used to be able to do swimming, tennis, and cook a great meal before I got tired....

But, Im glad to be getting better overall.  I guess nothing is side effect free and thankfully, there is no embarrassing burping...its just heartburn.  YUK.  This isn't noted in side effects.

I had heartburn when I had my first round of chemo.  This is 5th round of HERSEPTIN alone with out chemo and I always feel good. But I have always taken probiotics 50 billion and they really help. My  doc was  ok with it. I hope it works for you. Now that I'm done with chemo  I put my self on 30 billion.

I just started taking a probiotic mainly b/c my belly bloated out so far I looked prego.  Dr seemed ok, don't know what mg.  I don't know if it helps much w gas.  I think it works mainly in the intestines vs. stomach???

I too am having severe heartburn and the doctors don't believe it is a side effect of the herceptin, however I have not had it this bad before.

I had a very difficult chemo one month and complained of very sour stomach and constant diarrhea.. It was a one off and I even just wondered if I had caught a bug.

My doc put me on Apo-Pantoprazole 40mg... I was already on Rinitidine (150mg) at night for indigestion / heartburn. Please note I have a small hiatal hernia as well.

The Pantoprazole has given me total relief! I do not have heartburn, sour stomach or indigestion period.

A tip, the pharmacist told me to take it half an hour before eating in am.

    I hope this helps!

I'm on TDM1 - which is herceptin + a molecule of emtanzine (chemo). I'm participating in the ATEMPT clinical trial. Only had one dose so far but experienced severe heartburn. My yoga instructor suggested Aloe Vera juice and it has helped beat the heartburn. Just a little bit everyday seems to take care of the acidity.

I don't get heartburn on herceptin alone, but when I was getting my full chemo regimen, it was terrible.

I had my 1st Hercepton without chemo last week and after it I slept for 24 hours and woke up during the night with wicked heartburn. I already take 20mgs of a med for that daily, so I have a bottle of liquid gaviscon I used during chemo and took that and was fine. I guess I will make sure I keep it close by got next time. I am going to ask them about possibly doing the Herceptin drip over a longer period because they do it over 30 minutes now which is quick

Update: my doctor prescribed omeprazole (Prilosec 40 mg - one a day) and that has taken care of my heartburn and nausea.

    Hi everyone.

Two weeks ago, I completed my last Taxol treatment. (6 rounds, 3 of which were with Herceptin and Perjeta). I developed headaches 2 - 3 days after each treatment, and neuralgia of various muscles (jaw, teeth area, back) which lasted a couple of days. I did not develop severe gastric symptoms until I had my first Herceptin and Perjeta without the Taxol. I take probiotics (probably need more), and was taking Omaprazole while on Taxol. Doc told me to omit Omeprazole when I finished Taxol, but has now suggested I continue taking it for a while to quiet the gas/bloating I was having. I have to watch my diet also to avoid acid producing foods, so between the diet, eating slowly, and adding the Omeprazole, I am calming the inflamed stomach and intestinal tract. I will let you all know as I move forward with the Hereptin/Perjeta treatment if that helps exacerbate the gastric symptoms.
