Infection...cellulitis...necrosis...cancer???
I'm 9 months post exchange, and was scheduled 2/13 to remove these smooth round silicones and replace with the new Mentor gummies. Wednesday I noticed a pea sized red, hard lump in the middle of my breast. There was a large pink patch around it that reminded me of cellulitis...I've had that 3 times now in this journey, but been infection free for 6 months. My PS was in surgery but called me in an antibiotic and saw me Friday. She says it's an infection and that she wants me to go back to my infectious disease Dr. and get his opinion, and cancelled my surgery. Then yesterday the red lump developed a dark spot in the middle, definitely coming from the inside of the breast. The large pink patch is gone (responding to the antibiotic), but the red lump is still there, now with a blue/black center. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

i have seen pictures where the implant started extruding thru the skin and the color was blue black. i would call ps office again and insist he see it.

sounds like MRSA....
-
my son has had it and so has a friend and when it is on the skin, this is how it presents...

Thanks Kathleen...I have been treated for MRSA before, even though the tests were inconclusive. Do you know if it can lie dormant in your body? I have an appointment tomorrow morning with the infectious disease Dr. and will find out more.

Tamiami, good luck with your appointment. Hoping they can clear up whatever is is quickly.

I just came from the infectious disease dr. and he says it's an infection and would like the implant to come out. He is going to talk to my PS today and call me tonight to discuss the best course of action. I'm sad that I will have to possibly be without anything for several months, but I really want ALL infection out of my body. I'll just have a "poor me" day today and then I'm sure it will all work out.

Tami, I am so sorry to hear of your infection. Did he say what kind? will they test and have they put you on anything yet? Good luck with your surgery. I'm sorry you need to deal with this.
-
He did not test. Since my PS put me on Keflex a week ago, and the infection seems to be responding somewhat, he doesn't think it's MRSA. He assumes it's a wimpier bacteria. I'm sure they will culture when they remove the implant. He was very concerned that I have pain in my armpit and shoulder blade. I'm going to ask them to do an MRI to make sure that the infection is not in the bone or muscle. I'm still waiting to hear what exactly they plan to do...hopefully in the morning!
