How vain are you?

Eli, you definitely made me chuckle, so your day's work is done
and I agree, btw. Having fun is of the essence.
Old lady face creams, I recently got one from Apivita, a natural cosmetics company based here in Greece (but they sell in the US too), and the stuff is amazing, seriously. I have tried other things in the past and always ended up with Nivea or similar, because it didn't seem to make any difference.
Waxing, As per American Apparel, muff is baaaa-aack! Just saying

"Muff is baaaa-aack!"
Hilarious! I used to joke about the "free-and-painless" (relatively speaking) Brazilian wax I ended up with as a result of chemo. Then, I decided that there were certain things that really, really, REALLY needed to stay covered.
I'm going to try some of the under-eye age re-wind stuff. I used to LOVE Boots products, but they moved out of Canada years ago. I really liked their marshmallow moisturizer.
TwinMamaHeather... I have a friend who was a hair-dresser and she said that I could colour my hair almost right away, but - for the first little while - to only use the semi-permanent/wash-out-in-28-shampoos colours because you won't know how your hair is going to react. After six months, she okayed permanent colour. Talk to your hairdresser; she might have some suggestions, as well.
-
You know, I can't stop pondering..."informed" of what???
-
What do you mean Melissa????
I'm going to try that under-eye rewind stuff, too. For all I posted about just using my existing foundation, I do believe that the under eye skin IS different and has different needs, so perhaps the rewind stuff is more gentle...? As for the foundation I recommended being hard to take off: maybe that's why I like it? It doesn't rub off during the day, or sweat off and I do really scrub it off at night making me feel like I've given my face a good clean. To wash at night I use the pretreated wipe thingies. Mine have all dried out, but I cut them in half to save on waste and when I wet them the cleanser is activated so it's all good.
As for argan oil, I used some on my face and it made my facial hair grow WAY TOO fast!!!!!!! I wax and can get away with once a month or so, but not when I treat my skin well...doi! I'm getting those dark dots of sun damage and it's killing me!!! What to do, what to do????
-
Now, you REALLY have my attention - DARK SUN SPOTS, also known as old lady patches, also known as too lazy to cover up properly when gardening, also know as...
SO - backs of hand, of course, and now on face - splotch, splotch, splotch - what to use??????????
-
Selena, I agree on the chemo brazilian, not a good look, IMHO. Also, some of us have, uhm, sensitive triggers. A bit of buffer is not a bad thing
-
Aren't there specific lightening creams for those things? Inquiring, and aging, minds want to know!
-
Barbe my derma did the all over skin check, said my face had a lot of sun damage. I had to do a 3 week treatment with a cream to get cleared up. It was for skin cancer. Turned my skin a hideous shade of red. But when it was done I returned to normal quickly. Best to get that checked out.
-
Yep. She's really the girly girl in this house, she's all about pink everything, I spend more on her hair care than me!
-
Melissa... so do I
Saucy? My mother calls that look "impertinent"...
-
Yes, I do! I put that on a Maltese forum. They said she was rocking the Veronica Lake look.
Do you have a spoiled pet?
-
She needs a new winter coat. What do you all think?
-
Not anymore. I lost my Malcolm on September 5, 2012 and miss him every day. Before that, I had Bagheera who passed away on March 29, 2011. They were the last of my cats. In between, I was diagnosed with- and had treatment for cancer. It was a really rough few years and I haven't felt up to taking in another cat(s). I just get so attached, you know?

My DH and I are struggling with that right now. We lost our precious yorkie last Saturday. I know we will adopt another dog someday, but we need to get beyond our grief. When we got her at 10 weeks, the youngest child was 16. Chloe was 16 yrs and 2 months when she died. She really was our baby. I think it will take awhile to be ready to love another one.
P.S. No surprise, Chloe also had a winter wardrobe of coats and sweaters, in different colors, to coordinate with mom.

Thank you kay.

SunflowersMA...."old lady" spots on face and hands....best ever lightening cream is AMBI...get it at Walgreens. I have tried others and this is the best IMHO. I am very fair and have a lot of sunspots on the decolletage and the sides of my legs, hands etc. This really works.

Oh, Yorkie, I'm so sorry. They leave such "absence" behind, don't they?
-
Yes, Selena, it's like a hole left in the heart. I know time will heal, but right now it is hard.
-
Yorkie, I am so sorry.
-
Thanks Momine.

I'm so sorry to those who lost their beloved pets. My heart dog, Crystal, passed 6 years ago, and I still have my crying moments. We have brought two other dogs into our family since then, but there are some dogs who really are like a shared soul. I love all my dogs, and cannot imagine life without a furry friend.
As for age/sun spots, years ago I had a series of 6 IPL treatments, which did help. I always use an SPF 30 sunblock, rain, shine or snow, which is very important. Retinoids can help, but can be very irritating, so they need to be introduced gradually into your skincare routine. A vitamin C serum is also good in treating dark spots. I've heard concerns about products containing the ingredient hydroquinone, so I avoid it.
-
Sunflowers, make sure that you don't use it after you get the lightening you want. It can be very irritating if you use it to ward off dark spots. And test it on a place on your body before using on your face.
Good luck...I had a spot on my cheek and in about 2 weeks....gone and no return.

THANK YOU MsP - excellent advice, esp. as "moderation" is not my strong suit ;-)
-
Yorkie, I am so sorry for your loss. Sending gentle hugs.
Selena, if you're in Canada, check out Target for Boots products. They don't have a large selection but they do have some, at least here in the US. I use several of their products and love them. Just bought a new No 7 eyeshadow trio today because the L'Oreal eyeshadow I bought yesterday had "sparklies" in it. I decided I'm too old for "sparklies"! lol! Will pass it on to my 14 year old daughter.
-
Finding eyeshadow without "sparkle" is hard, isn't it? Thanks for the Target tip; yes I'm in Canada and a new Target just opened a few blocks from me... I'll check it out.
-
Amy, thank you.
-
Poor Yorkie. I am thinking of you. I know how you feel. Also, love the pictures of Beans and Malcolm! Selena, they must be so special to you still.
Switching gears, I must say, Momine, you are making me pee with your talk of large muffs and sensitive triggers! This is clearly the naughty thread. Who is the JM Argan Oil maniac? I did have some of that argan oil, but I switched it out (used it up first of course) for Caudalie. Haven't tried all the cosmetics with it, though. I found, in comparison, the JM oil absorbed less quickly than the Caudalie. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing -- I guess it depends on what's going on with your skin.
Momine! I was just trying to gear myself up for my first Brazilian! Is it not feminist to get Brazilians? I don't know what my excuse is. At any rate, please report in, as I am embarrassed to appear in front of my technician in full muff. Should you trim first? And to what length? And how badly does it hurt? And will she hoist your leg in the air, as I have seen on Sex and the City? And do you wear little paper panties? Just ordered Cosabella for Valentine's Day, must pull the (metaphorical) trigger on this before then.
-
We had a very sweet Maltese/Poodle mix for 16 years. I admit to not being as diligent about her grooming as you appear to be.
Kayb, I've never done chemo but the hair on my legs just called it quits. I only had SNB on one side and initially used a wet/dry electric in wet mode. Then I got lazy and now use a regular razor, but am super careful. Yes, depilation is a funny topic. I wonder, at what point in history and in which cultures, hair, exception ones head, became something to get rid of for women?

It's also interesting to ponder why pubic hair evolved in the first place. A long time ago I heard it was to catch germs before they entered the body cavities. Lately I've read that they trap pheromones, which attract, or used to, the opposite sex. I even recently read a quote, allegedly sent from Napoleon to Josephine at the end of one of his campaigns: "Do NOT wash, I am coming home."
