I got shingles after my third taxol. I am on antivirals and taking pain meds as needed. Any idea how long shingles last? I got the rash on Saturday and thought it was just a reaction to taxol but when I saw the MO and dermatologist on Monday it was confirmed that it's shingles. My taxol #4 has now been postponed. This makes me nervous. I hope my shingles heal and I can resume treatment. This shingles pain is quite bad too :(

    I had the shingles over 12 years ago and can't really remember how long they lasted.  As I recall the active rash did not last long.  The pain from the nerve damage, which for me was extreem, lasted a couple of years before I could give up the neurontin to control it.

    I got shingles after my first TCH treatment in June 2010. I got on valacyclovir (several pills a day for a while) after 2 days of terrible pain. Shingles lasted about a month but the pain became manageable. I had it again when I started treatment (again) doxil and herceptin in September 2012. I was put on valacyclovir (only one a day) for the year but now I can feel when it is coming back and I take the drug immidiately for a week and it never gets bad. Like a weak version. Hang in there and take the drugs!
