Exactly one week ago I had my port inserted. Today they removed the lock and it hurts very badly. She didn't say anything about it . It is a tiny bit red around the hole but my 8 month old was also grabbign it a lot. The pain is quite bad.

Should I be concerned? or is this normal?

Hi Mommy13....So sorry your having so much trouble....I had my port put in last May and I never had a problem...They have all sorts of different ports...Yours and mine I'm sure are different...I never had  a lock to be removed...You should not have any pain with a port no matter what kind they put in...Maybe a little discomfort, but not the pain you say you have...It may be nothing serious but I would be concerned and call your doctor so he or she can see it...You have nothing to lose by calling...Better safe than sorry...You obviously going to have chemo....Please never hesitate to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have to your doctor...It is your life and you deserve the best care you can receive...Good luck to you, and God Bless you...

I second what Gubbyann said, if you are still having pain, call your patient designated nurse and  see about having it checked out. I had a lock with my port that was taken out a week after and it was achy afterwards but not very painful. I had slight discomfort for about a month while the incision healed though. If anything rubbed on the incision it hurt until it was well healed.

Don't be afraid to call the nurse, that's what they are there for. I called for some pretty simple things but felt better that I was double checking things when I wasn't sure. You'll have the peice of mind once you get an answer.
