How vain are you?

thank you wyo and kayb about the local honey! Will pass this on to my SIL. I really hope it helps my nice and nephew.
Momine, I would LOVE to hear more stories!
-
Amy, how old are your niece and nephew? If they are very young use caution or start with tiny amounts. My dad had an anaphylactic reaction to honey as a kid. He really does not have severe hay fever but tends to get mildly asthmatic symptoms at certain times of he year so I guess whichever plant pollen was in it really got him.
-
Thanks, Melissa, that's good to know. Start out small. My niece is 8 and my nephew is 6. My nephew is the one who has the most tree/pollen allergies. Seems like he allergic to everything-grass, trees, pollen, animals, shell fish, tree nuts. They both carry epi-pens. They are NOT allergic to peanut butter though.
So, did you try the new hair color? I think we're all holding our breath! I hope you loved it!
-
i'll do the hair color this evening. Waiting for my hair to not be freshly washed.
Anyone besides me hate coloring their hair? Thirty minutes blind. Can't read or watch TV because I'm blind with no glasses.
-
I can't see close up, so I'm good to watch tv while I wait for my color to process.
-
i can't even see the TV.
-
Thanks Melissa for the caution about the amount of honey in young children- totally did not read that part in detail. Honey should actually not be given to kids under a year old but I now read these kids are a bit older. Given the severity of the allergies (needing to have epi-pens) I would start small even a half teaspoon and see how its tolerated. The premise behind this idea is to build up "immunity" of sorts to the local allergens causing the problem by ingesting small amounts the body can manage.
-
my hairdresser does my hair coloring but I use a DIY root touch up in between. I too am blind without my glasses but I don't care if the arms get color on them. I just wipe them off when I get ready to rinse. What I do hate is the smell of hair coloring. Wonder if the oil based stuff smells better.

Okay, here's my report on the Olia hair color. It has a nice smell. Nothing unpleasant at all. It was easy because it is very thick & does not drip or run. It did not stain my scalp like some do. I think if your hair is long you would definitely need 2 packages because I never use all of the coloring but I did this time and mine is only chin length.. The color is okay. I used light golden brown and usually dislike color until after it has been washed several times, so we'll see. The spots where I have a lot of white look a little brassy, but again, will probably be fine after a few more washes, I can't tell a lot of difference in condition. It feels about the same as when I've used Loreal or Clairol. Still, lots better than ammonia stinging my nose & eyes.

MelissaDallas - I colored my hair myself only once. I ended up looking like Ronald McDonald. It was scary. Now I pay a professional to do it.
A few years ago, I had a stylist who would wrap the temples of my glasses in foil so I could put them on and read while the color was processing. (I did that once without the foil, and the dye etched the plastic on the temples. Yikes.)
Now I just sit in the chair - glasses off - with my iPad up against my nose, checking out Pinterest while the color processes.
-
I just can't afford it right now. I have got to get back to full time work. The only way to have my hair anyplace close to what my natural color is is to foil so much of it that I'm basically a two process blond, and then add light brown coloring. Even then I don't get the coppery red in it back. I've had pretty good results at the Ogle School but my introverted nature just cringes at spending 5 or 6 hours up there. Ugh.
I'm farsighted so my arms just aren't long enough without the glasses. I did some half-ass dusting & vacuuming while I waited.
-
I've colored my hair at home for years. I go to Sally Beauty Supply, and buy either the AgeBeautiful or the Wella Color Charm brands, and use them with a number 20 developer. Because I have dark hair, I have to touch up my roots about every 5 weeks. I usually put it off too long, cause I hate doing my hair, but I save a lot of money over having my stylist do it. My color looks good (hope I'm not fooling myself!), and seems to last well without fading. Unless I get a copper brown, as the red tones seem to fade quickly.
I wear glasses too, and put on an old pair that I use only for hair coloring, or I wouldn't be able to see.
-
My current hairstyle and color….
this is what I had pre-chemo and for some strange reason I felt the need to get that style back before I changed it to something new. Im waiting to find the something new that I like.

Product alert I wanted you all to know- I headed out to get the anastasia tinted brow gel talked about here- what I came home with is a benefit product called "gimme brow" in medium/deep. It is fastastic!! While I was asking the girl at Sephora about the anastasia she recommended this because it has fibers vs just being a gel and said it will "grab on" to even any scrawny hair you have making the brows look fuller. She put it on and it is fantastic really looks natural and the applicator is more short and stubby . Also picked up Laura Mercier foundation primer- the radiance style. She put it on and then put the tinted moisturizer I wear (LM Bisque) over it- wow!! looked better than foundation and a lot lighter- its been several hours now and still looks great.

Tonight is my favorite night of the week - Downton Abbey and Sherlock night!

Melissa... thanks for the review. I really hate that ammonia smell too, so maybe I'll try it the next time I'm due to colour.
Vyo... never heard of that, but it's worth checking out. I need a bit of brow filling in, but I don't like the pencilled-in look. That "gimme brow" sounds intriguing.
My arms aren't long enough to read anything either, but I'm too vain to wear glasses full-time and the thought of putting contacts in makes me cringe. Which is a shame because I'd love to have eyes so blue that they look violet... or riveting green. But every time I've seen someone put in- or take out contacts, I dive for cover.

Selena, if you don't like the look of a brow pencil, you can always try a brow powder. I think pencils look too harsh. Right now, I'm using a Smashbox brow powder. It has two colors and a brow wax in a little container, so you can customize the color you need. I use a Laura Mercier brow brush to apply it, then use a brush that looks like a dry mascara wand to get the brow hairs where I want them. Using the powder never looks harsh. You can always use an eyeshadow too in a pinch.
This is the one I use. There are several color choices:
-
Melissa, thanks for the review! I'm looking forward to hearing how you like it a few days from now. I generally don't like mine after I first color. Needs a wash or two to tame the color.
-
Amy, it sure does, and even then the hair color bottle's version of "light" golden brown seriously differs from mine.
-
Andrea... thanks! I've heard mention of brow powders in magazines, but I've never found one. I'll look up that link.
One thing my hairdresser told me about using home hair colour was that - because my hair tended toward the warm or "golden" - then I should avoid any color that was to the warm as it would come out brassy. She suggested trying an "ash" tone, which I was always told NOT to try because my complexion is warm. But... she was right. Using an "ash"-toned colour toned down the brassiness, but still allowed the natural warm hue of my hair shine through. She said that, when I get it professionally done, then it is a bit safer to use a warm tone because the salon colours are formulated a bit differently. Who'da thunk?
-
Mine doesn't have any warm left in it any more. My hair got very dark & all the golden blond & copper went away when I started graying. I know when they foiled it they took it to pale yellow, then used a 7N (neutral) color but still had to put toner on it a couple of times to tone it down. I think right now I'm just seeing the color over the white and it will be okay after a wash or two.
-
It always seems darker when it's freshly coloured; I like the tone about two weeks after colouring. Then, it's about perfect. I'm like that with haircuts too; two weeks after is when I really love it.
-
Andrea, I use the Smashbox brow powder too. The Taupe is a great color for most people.
-
Ariom, that's the one I use! It's great for filling in spots and adding definition.
-
Wow! Spookie AND Ariom! Andrea, how was your sx?
Sunflowers, my sx was 'botched' since the flap failed on the right side and got infected -- it was a fiasco. Emergency sx on New Year's Eve to rip out TE on right side. So now I have one deflated TE on left, and a ripped out gouged right side -- they wouldn't take both out at the same time. And many drain scars, also.
Momine, Attic Greek IS hard. It's crazy to learn it. I don't know if I will do it successfully. But I am a playwright. Want to read the plays in Greek. And, you know, everything is written in Greek. You know: the birth of the city-state, law, medicine, philosophy. Isn't the bible in Greek?
This seems to be the place to ask about the best body oil for your scars. Was thinking of Weleda. My beauty situation right now consists mainly of Caudalie's Divine Oil, as much as I want to use, all the time. I am not 'saving' it.
-
bobogirl, wow, you've been through a lot! What's the next step?
Bio-Oil is recommended by a lot of women on this site, but it made me itchy. I tried emu oil, which wasn't irritating, but I didn't notice it did anything for my scars. I hope someone has some good suggestions!
