yorkiemom - that apron is TOO CUTE!

Have you been over on the Stitching the Pieces Together thread? (All things hand sewn, crocheted, quilted, knitted, etc.) You really should post a pic over there... the ladies would love it!

    wyo,

Yes, the granite shade is quite dark. Brunette might be better. Have fun in Vegas.

Yorkie, the apron is "sew"cute!!!  I wish I knew how to sew or crotchet. I'm only 45 but can't even see well enough to thread a needle to replace a button or mend a minor tear. lol! Kudos to those of you who have the talent! Now, if I didn't have this damn BC, I'd love to learn how to brew my own beer and make my own wine!!! Sigh.

Looking forward to hearing how the Olia goes Melissa. I'm due for a grays touch up bit just bought my usual L'Oreal Excellence.

Rock on vain sisters! This is my favorite thread! Thanks again for the smiles and beauty tips!

Good morning all!  It's cold and blustery here, and we're due for more snow.  I love winter!

New discussion... who are your style icons?  Do you have one or many?  My go-to for all things classy, tailored and elegant will always be the late Diana, Princess of Wales, especially in her later years.

    image

And Charlize Theron.  No surprise there; she's the same type as the Princess (tall, blond, elegant), but with a bit of an edge.  I like her with her hair really short.

MelissaDallas... Looking forward to hearing your opinion of the Garnier hair colour.

Selena, I loved Dianna too! Charlize Theron has the kind of lovely face, like yours, that looks adorable in a short, pixie cut. The one or two times I've cut my hair really short, the only thing that stood out was my nose!

it was hard to have a style icon growing up in the Seventies when you were 5'2 and were flat chested & had a tiny waist but very curvy butt & thighs. Let's face it. Most clothes on models do not look flattering on us. I adored the very feminine defined waist/full skirted 50's high fashion dresses. I love some of the early "Mad Men" stuff, though not sheathes because they never fit me. Hell, I wanted to be Scarlett O'Hara. I had a 22" waist. You could have laced me down to 17" in a corset no problem.

I told my Mom the other day that I was sorry that when I was a teenager that there were not stylish women like Jennifer Lopez who were built much like I was, though if you look at her early stuff, somewhere along the way she "magically" developed boobs. Early on she had a great butt but was flat chested too.

I just found this thread and love it! We have so many beautiful women here, long haired, short haired, no haired and you all are inspiring!

So, my DH likes to tease that I have to match my bra and panties to the outfit I'm wearing. Anyone else do this? If I'm wearing purple, no red undies for me! I'll wear lavender!

I grew up in the 70's, and loved the bohemian look. Think Stevie Nicks. I still love it, but haven't shopped for clothes for a while, due to a wonky looking breast, that was just revised two days ago. So, soon I'll be on the hunt for cute tops! I also used to love Jodie Foster in Armani.

I had more I wanted to say, but my brain seems to have gone missing somewhere along the way.

Style icons: Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Jamie Leigh ( is that her name?) - women who are still looking like WOMEN and not "snapping turtles caught in a wind tunnel" - take THAT, Jane Fonda, for all she did for the "keep fit" industry, it's SO SAD to see what she's done to her ( or what used to be her) face :(

    Andrea623... Welcome!

Guilty!  I match my bra and panties to my outfit!  I just don't get the trend of wearing a black bra with a white top, so that the bra can be seen through the top.  I, also, don't get these young girls who'll wear, for example, a hot-pink bra (with straps) with a tube top (??!??) or those who'll wear a racer-back tank top, but wear a regular bra (again with straps showing) usually in a different colour.  I get that they are trying to make a fashion statement, but GAH!  It just makes me cringe... and then grin when I think about what my very proper, Edwardian grandmother would have said.

Jody Foster in Armani ... Good one!  I forgot about her.  She always looked so wonderfully understated and classy on the red carpet.

Momine... ThumbsUp  I love the 1930's-1940's screen goddesses.  They, always, looked so well-groomed and elegant.

Andrea, I always have the impulse to do that. Sometimes I don't, but only because at the time I can't find matching underwear. I always check though.

Kayb, Ulta carries drugstore brands, such as L'Oreal, Maybelline, NYX, in addition to their higher end brand names, like Smashbox, Laura Geller, or Benefit. They also have an extensive assortment of skin and hair care products. I love Sephora cause I'm a makeup whore, but get in less trouble dollar wise at Ulta.

I worked for Estée Lauder many moons ago, and it started my love affair with makeup and skincare.

    Kayb,

Yes, just what Andrea said about Ulta. Lower prices over all but more limited selection on the high end items and lots of drugstore brands too. I like having such a broad selection in one store.

Selena, I am a sucker for elegant. For years, in my 20s,  I wore a black, calf-length, pleated wool skirt. But it was gorgeous (and had belonged to Marianne Faithful ;) )

Momine...  Cool!  I love pleated skirts.  Haven't been able to find one for years.

Kayb...  I'm glad you like the thread!  Us vain girls needed a place where we could be irreverent, honest, and open where we could freely discuss any topic under-the-sun (beauty, style, fashion, research, current events, you-name-it, etc. ).

Momine!  Hello!  :)  Selena, I have bookmarked this excellent thread.

Momine, as if I was not impressed enough with you already because you live in Athens (I am studying Attic Greek), now you tell me you wore a skirt that once belonged to Marianne Faithful!?  You are the ultimate in cool.

Sorry to have jumped in, but I have been reading and laughing (with recognition at myself).  Had (botched) BMX in December; revision March 7th.  I find myself even more vain than ever.  And I think to myself, just wait, self.  You now have license to be as vain as is humanly possible.

Thanks so much, all of you, for making me feel better!  XXX Bobo

Selena - I took pictures of Charlize Theron's pixie haircut, and Kris Jenner's short haircut to my hair stylist. I got a cut somewhere in between. Love it.

Here is how vain I am: today I had another acupuncture treatment. She put the needles in the top of my head, and after she took them out, scrubbed the area vigorously with a gauze pad. She was doing it so hard I almost asked her to stop. Yes, it was painful, but mostly I was worried she might wear the color off my dyed roots.

Why are you learning Attic Greek? That is difficult.

Momine, I too am so impressed by that skirt!

But speaking of Mick Jagger, did anybody read McKenzie Phillip's biography "High on Arrival?" At least in McKenzie's experience, Jagger is not so nice a character. Of course nobody could beat her own dad in the arena of bottom feeding.

Kayb, rofl, no it was long after her Jagger days. It was not very glamorous at all actually. My boyfriend was a singer (never made it) and he was working with a guitar player (made it, sort of) who was friends with Faithful. Faithful went to rehab and told guitar guy he could use her apartment. So we all lived in her apartment that was paid for by her record company. Only the record company stopped paying the rent, which neither we nor Faithful knew. So, one day we were put on the street by the sheriff and I grabbed the skirt on my way out (it was the only thing she had left behind in the closet.

bobo, I hope this isn't a rude question - but how the heck can a BMX be botched?  Maybe it's all the cocoa I'm drinking to keep warm, but a little voice in my head keeps asking "did they take off the wrong ones?"

MORE SNOW - and too cold to describe, really, this is NOT usual for western MA, hard to describe how strange it is to have temps so far below ZERO 9 not counting what they call the "wind chill factor" - just strange!

wyo, about the local honey and allergies - how much do you eat and do you add it to coffee or tea or just down a teaspoon or tablespoon? My niece and nephew have terrible seasonal allergies and I'm curious as to how much honey they should ingest. Thanks!

That's so cool, Momine! It's a piece of rock and roll history!

Btw, my husband thought I was vain/silly cause when I went for surgery this week, I had to make sure I had my lashes nicely curled.

    Hi all

Melissa- waiting on that hair color

As far as the local honey- I was told you could have a tablespoon daily or more - I did not have that much but probably do have a tablespoon 3-5 times/week. I added it to tea or put it on oatmeal  or stir it into greek yogurt.  you can drizzle it on pancakes- just about anything as a sweetner

Kayb, more like Letterman's incredibly silly "brush with celebrity" segment back in the old, old days. For the young ones: audience members would tell stories, with excruciating detail, of the time they shared an elevator or something with someone famous. You would wait through all the details for some really cool punch line, and it never came. It would always turn out that they shared the elevator, and then they got off the elevator and that was that. But Grace Jones did pinch my boyfriend's ass once ;)
