I'm not sure where to post this, but I remember there was a thread here on aspartame, so I thought I'd post this here. Turns out, the FDA is now investigating a chemical in the brown coloring.

Another article. (if you can find more if you google for cola and cancer)

Yeah, this was on the national news recently...

Dr. Richard Besser (ABC) said that you would have to drink thousands of sodas per day to get the same amount of 4-MEI that caused cancer in the mice.

Luckily, I don't drink soda, but I do watch out for "caramel coloring" in other products.

I saw that on GMA too. I do drink Diet Coke maybe 1 day and I am going to keep doing that. I am not saying there isn't some validity to their findings but like the good doctor said you would have to drink a lot of them to possibly cause cancer. I had a friend who used to call me everytime there was something new that caused cancer. I don't totally abstain from anything - everything in moderation. My mother had BC and now my sister and I have it too. That is most likely the reason we got it. Diane

I'm not trying to scare anyone but wanted to share that info in case it helps. I used to drink a lot of Diet Coke but stopped after I read that some people experience a sense of "foggy headedness" from the aspartame. I tried the experiment and it was true for me. (the aspartame mucks with some people's serotonin levels, the "feel good" hormone). Later I learned that the phosphoric acid in sodas can lead to bone loss, and I'm at high risk for osteoporosis.  FWIW, I know Hansen's Natural root beer is clear, not brown colored, so maybe there are natural cola drinks that don't add this chemical.   And....if anyone wants caffeine alternative, green tea has caffeine, and many believe it has cancer-fighting properties (and there are some flavored green teas, if you don't like it plain).
