I enjoyed reading thru' this thread.  (MzMerz's son on the rollercoaster...LOLPMP!)  I like humor in all it's shades, and black humor can be extremely hilarious whether you are having a family laugh or occasionally springing it on unsuspecting outsiders.  Don't bottle it up...it needs to come out, same as the tears.

No, I am not Stage IV, but my mom and I laughed our way thru' her terminal lung cancer.  One particular talk was what demeanor she would want me to have when it came time for the end.  "Mom," I asked her, "should I be there with encouragement, like, head into the light or something?"  "That's o.k., if you happen to be there," she replied, "otherwise it just might be a janitor with a  flashlight."  We could joke about anything.  Boy, do I miss her.

I took this CPR class lady year and the instructor says it is important when doing chest compressions to keep a rhythm    He said 2 songs have the correct rhythm just pick whichever works for you.  They are :  staying alive and another one bites the dust lol. Some people were so offended but I thought it was hilarious.

Now you've got me imagining chest compressions with "bump bump bump, another one bites the dust....yada bump bump bump, another one bites the dust. That's pretty funny. We have to get re-certified in cpr every year where I work, and I can imagine that getting a good laugh where I work, from everyone except our nurse who does the instruction. I can tell you right now, I would get a lecture from her about how am I able to count my compressions, while singing that song. But know it will be going through my head now!

Upon dx I was warned by MIL I HAD to stay alive as had a loving DH & a kid to raise 😳.. Mm I thought I'll bargain with God on this one..,

So used to people asking how I am .. Automatic reply is "woke up today so I am fine." They smile, not getting what I mean.. 😀

Also asked many times by very "considerate" friends & family members if I am scared to die.. I reply "Are you? Cos you may die before I do?"  One actually did die 2 months ago 😳.. RIP sir..

    Hugs

    Ebru

Great thread! I have been laughing for 30 minutes.

I had a pastor that had on his wall: Eat right, exercise daily, die anyway!

My joke from the beginning when people ask if I plan on having reconstruction surgery: "of course, I don't have a spare tire. I have spare boobs. I've been saving up for years" (as you can guess I'm just a little pudgy)

I had been very ill over the holidays, lots of belly pain, vomiting, headache, shortness of breath ... knew I had an appointment with my MO on Dec. 26, so kept trying to hang in there and wait to see her, but finally at 4:30 in the morning on Dec. 26 agreed to go to the ER. I overheard the resident commenting about getting me admitted for ascites and pleural effusions and uncontrolled vomiting & dehydration, and I told him I just wanted him to "get me tuned up and out of here" as I am truly not wanting to spend time in a hospital as a patient. So they got me out in time to see my MO that afternoon, and she set me up for getting fluid drained from my lungs & belly as an out-patient, put me on some meds I don't even really remember what, started me on my new chemo (Xeloda) - I didn't put up any arguments I was feeling so bad. Fast-forward to yesterday's visit: I was grumbling about just about EVERYTHING, not happy with fatigue, fingernails, finger neuropathy, nausea, HA, complain, complain, complain - you get the picture. She gave me a big hug, laughed and said she was SO GLAD to hear me grumbling as it meant I was feeling so much better than when she had seen me a week ago! And I had to laugh at myself because she was SO RIGHT!!! So I embraced my grumpiness as evidence that I AM OK!!!!

Linda, so glad you're grumpy again! You've really been through a lot over the holidays--what a crummy time to be sick! I keep hearing good things about Xeloda. I hope it works well for you.

Oh my god. I have found it. The song of my people! I need to come back when I'm less exhausted and read through all of this. The first page alone has me giggling. I'm sarcastic, snarky, sardonic, and I've not bothered to treat my cancer any differently than anything else.

"Jeez. I just have cancer. It's not like I'm dyin' or anything. Lighten up."

Yeah, that's pretty much how I see it, despite my Dx being Stage IV mets right off the bat. Not many people can get that. I HAVE FOUND HOME!

Maybe instead of traveling pants, we can get some grumpy pants to share.  Linda gets them first!  So glad you are feeling better.  I started cycle 5 of X this morning, and hope to keep the SE's at bay.  I'm doing 1000 mg twice a day, 14/7.  I'm always so excited to start my week off (woohoo- chemo vaca!!), but by day 6 or so of it, I'm feeling like I want to get going again since I know (for now) it's working.  It's almost like a security blanket... how weird is that???

Kuchen--I don't believe it--I have actually found another me---From day one I've been saying things like Oh I was going to retire to be a pole dancer, now what? or the Dr. would say are u paying attention and I would say nope, u work on this that's u'r job, I never even read about it, I showed up for 2 yrs of chemo like I was going visiting and I told them at least I don't have Stage V--and I was told there is no Stage V and I said there is now in my book so I'll be fine. And I'm still going.

Hollander it is a security blanket cuz when u'r finally done u feel like u'r missing something in u'r week. It's strange.
