Dr. Costanza Cocilovo at INOVA was my breast surgeon. I liked her very much. She teamed up with Nahabedian for the bilateral mastectomy  (her) and the expander placement (him).  They used to work together when she ws at georgetown.  My surgery was at Fairfax.  Then Nahabedian did the exchange surgery at fairfax a few months later.  I also like the other members of nahabedian's team (the PA, the junior doctor, the scheduler).

I don't know which other plastic surgeons in the area are best for DIEP.  I just know nahabedianis one of the best for DIEP.

Maito...Dr Bedri is an expert on the DIEP procesure...years at johns hopkins etc. I can't say enough goos things about him. He is personable but so particular about every detail. Please check him out...I couldnt have made it through without my faith in him. His office is at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington.

hi I am new here. I found out in nov  that I have bc. Found out after Christmas that a lumpectomy wasn't an option. Now I will be having a mx as soon as I can get over the flu  and get on the books for the ps with dr. Chaintella. Any advice for me as to where to go for best info for different types of reconstruction? I thought I wanted the deip  recon, but heard some horror stories.. I have had enough scary stuff on 2 months to lasta life time.  Also if I do a double can you do deip? Ever thing I have read sounds like they only had one breast done with deip.  Hope this all makes sense. So confused but haven't talked with ps yet, just reading.

     Thanks Mary Beth

Maito-Dr Bedri is fantastic...after my surgery when the nurse was stripping my drains (you have drains in after surgery and they have to be emptied frequently) she said Dr Bedri is one of the pickiest drs about how often we do this...he is probably the one most of us would use.  Spoke volumes cause nurses know the good ones.

I have a question for you guys. I'm thinking of applying for real jobs (I've been a self employed person for 8 yrs) and I'm super self conscious about the wig...any helpful hints to either take my mind off of it and/or distract an interviewer?

It's good to hear you feeling so much better that you are going to apply for jobs!  Yay!!!  However, I don't know what to suggest about the self-consciousness about the wig.  All I can say is maybe if you make sure everything else--your clothing, your makeup--is exactly how you like it and try to concentrate on how good those things make you feel.  It was surprising to me when I went "important places" in my wig just how few people seemed to notice, and I actually got some comments about my "haircut."

Mary-compared to the A/C, thid taxol is a walk in the park so far. I finish a month from today...so my thought is that starting to apply now will probably put any in-person interviews at least 3-4 weeks away...so I should be finished or almost finished. And I'm not nearly as marketable as I used to be...from my mouth to God's ear anyone wants to interview me!

Another vote for Cocilovo.  I switched over to her at the suggestion of my MO Wilkinson, and we've all been brainstorming options to reduce my risk since I'm not a candidate for tamoxifen.  I"m very comfortable continuing with her should the need arise for more biopsies.  She also had a suggestion that a reduction might be a solution for my 36H breasts, and made a call over to Venturi's office to pave the way for an appointment.  Meeting with him in the next few weeks so we'll see how it goes.

LorettaMac - Hope all goes good today!  let us know how you do. You can also come into the Feb 2014 surgeries thread.  There are a number of us in there!

Yes, gang... I am in there, i am having surgery next for what i hope to be a prophylactic mastectomy.  At my recent mammo they identified a cyst that they want to watch!  I told them I am not playing that game again so moving ahead with the MX and also hope to get the symmetry I am looking for once they do the exchange and reexchange on the other side.

    See you Saturday!

No inclement weather plan as it seems we are still a go at noon. Will keep an eye on the weather and cut it short if need be.
