diagnosed at 34.  Hubby and we're trying for kids for a few years prior. No success even with some minimal fertility assistance...no procedures though.  Currently halfway way done with AC & T chemo.  Periods stopped last month.  Didn't have time or funds to freeze anything prior to starting tx.  I will be getting double mastectomy after chemo and will have a thorough exam of my uterus and ovaries soon to make sure they are ok and don't need to come out right away.  I do plan to have total hysterectomy but still hopeful my periods will resume so I can try at least once to have a child of my own.

Looking of anyone's thoughts or suggestions or personal stories to guide me.

Hi Holly,  we're sorry that you have to be here, but really glad you found us!

Until other members come along to post with their stories and suggestions, there is a topic under the Young With Breast Cancer forum that you may find interesting. It's called Anyone NOT do fertility preservation before starting chemo?

    We hope this helps!

Hey Holly! Just ran across your post! I was 31 when diagnosed and had one daughter, but hoped to have more. My periods did resume after my AC & T!! I did begin ovulating appx 3 months post chemo. I hope this provides some encouragement. X0X0 Jodi

Holly, I know this post is from a few months ago, but I just had to respond. I'm 33 and was diagnosed TNBC back in January, stage IIa, grade 3. My husband and I had been trying for our first baby for over 3 years and did two IVF's in 2013 with no luck. We have issues on both ends, but my issue is older than should be eggs. We've decided to build our family through embryo adoption after I beat this thing. Docs said we can start trying again 3 years post treatment. Grieving the loss of a biological child took years and was extremely difficult, but now, especially after the diagnosis, I feel like it was all meant to be and can't wait to be mother and watch my husband be a father. I hope and pray your periods return and you're able to have a baby of your own. I know what that desire feels like! I just also wanted to let you know that there's always a plan B…even though it feels like you'll never be okay with it. Just allow yourself to remember you have a plan B. :) Wishing you all the best in the world!

I was 34 when diagnosed. My period has stopped during chemo and I went into menopause (hot flashes and the whole deal). However, about 4 months after chemo, my periods have returned and have been regular since. I don't plan to have any more kids but just wanted to let you know that even if chemo triggers menopause, you might get your period back and menopause will stop!
