Exercise - Working Back to it After or During Treatment

my eating plan is called "The Whole 30" and it is designed to reduce inflammation and heal your gut. Once you get into it, you lose your food cravings and it is pretty easy.
-
I tried a yoga video today. I felt really good afterwards! It was easier than I thought, although I did have to be careful not to bend my knee too much. Should have tried it a long time ago.....

went to church and stopped on the way home for a few of the groceries I didn't get yesterday. That's probably it for today.
-
Strangely, I have more joint pain on this diet, but I also stopped taking most of my supplements, some of them specifically joint related, for this 21 day introductory period because I take a lot of gummies (sugar) since I have a hard time swallowing larger pills. My knees are killing me but it doesn't hurt to walk so I will do that, it hurts to kneel or rise from a sitting position. I was pretty comical trying to get down onto the floor in my closet - then I couldn't get back up! Ridiculous!
gritgirl - I'm good with the food - it is just hard to eat away from home. I really don't mind the restrictions, and I'm a salad girl so that is good.
-
specialK-that is how I was when I was taking Femara. It was so bad my dr switched me to aromasin. Much better for me.
-
SpeciallK what does this food plan do?
It is coooooold here so I didn't go to yoga last night. I sure did get out and walk to get to work, so I wasn't laying all day. Brrrrrrrrr
-
ginger - I had pain on both Femara and Arimidex - worse on Arimidex, so I went back to Femara. I have two degenerated disks, that I had for years prior to BC so they just hurt more. The knee thing I can't really figure out - sometimes they hurt, sometimes they don't, but I think I need to add the joint related supplements back in. On this diet you cut out all sugar for 21 days and that is over this weekend. I will add the gummies back in and see what happens!
gritgirl - the theory behind this diet is that food sensitivity to one/some/all of these things makes it difficult to lose weight. I was previously restricting calories and exercising and not moving the scale at all. Corn and soy because they are GMO crops, peanuts and gluten because they seem to be something a lot of people are sensitive to, dairy because of the added hormones and the fact that it comes from a lactating animal possibly being fed GMO feed, eggs - same, and sugar because of the insulin issues. I can't argue with the results - I have lost 8 lbs. since the beginning of the year.

Hi there, I was just reading through some of the posts and as someone who was always active I have been frustrated with the fact that I have become so weak and this joint pain is crazy! Especially because the pain seems to moves around! At present it is mainly hips and knees. they feel swollen, esp. my right knee. Totally relating to the posts here. I think the key is to keep moving our bodies within our own personal abilities. I have an appointment with a personal trainer who I hope can help me modify exercises I used to do so that they are still effective but safe as well. I used to be able to do 25 full body push ups. Can't do even one anymore. After I had a tiny pity party for myself, I tried a modified version and did 3! Baby steps are very good
I was told by my PS though, no bench press. Has anyone else with implants been told this?
Ginger, my Brother has followed the Whole 30 for about a year and a half and swears by its anti-inflammatory properties. He went on it due to severe knee problems (His Orthopod recommended it hoping to delay knee surgery) He says he feels great and that he has so much more energy! He keeps trying to get me to do it....Maybe I will give it a try after all ... He got me the book for Christmas....subtle or what? lol
-
akler- not so subtle but I really love the way it makes me feel so I get why he wants you to try it. It is really helping me reduce inflammation and heal my gut. Good luck to you. Once you get through the sugar withdrawals, it is easy!
-
Good to hear Ginger, I am reading the book now...I think I will give it a shot
-
just fill your fridge with lots of fruits and veggies and get the forbidden stuff out of your house and it will be easier. 🍴
-
I set out to walk to the library today. I ended up going back home before I got there as I didn't feel like I could make it all the way, but I did walk about half a mile.
-
curveball. good for you! it has been cold here so i've been doing the minimum of walking. but since i have been having work done in my house, now i get to scrub it clean. that will be a lot of exercise in itself. ;-)
-
I walked half a mile again today, and it didn't tire me out as much as Monday. I dislike walking just to walk a given distance, but I'm going to have to do it to build up my stamina. The nearest places I can walk to as a goal, like the library or the post office, are at least a mile and a half round trip, which is too far for me right now.
Yesterday I did some chores around the house. There are still lots of those to do!
-
good for you, curve ball. I'm going to yoga tonight in spite of the cold. Brrrr
-
This darn cold weather kept me cooped up. I've been doing walks around the building at work and up and down flights of stairs. Good god talk about boring! I'm really looking forward to milder weather.
-
twohobbies. That is boring. Can you get someone to go with you?
A friend and I go the health club every Saturday and we walk on treadmills next to each other so we can chat. I wouldn't go otherwise
-
Gritgirl I'm going to join a gym for sure. My husband belongs and I'm getting my son to join too. I just haven't gotten around to it so I've been trying to piece together enough exercise outside and in. But I don't think I can get enough in during the winter to meet my doctor's expectations.
My husband will be thrilled that you recommended I go with him to the gym and yap at him the entire time! (And I'm sure my teenage son will want to be seen with me there). LOL
-
twohobbies. Yap away. It is much more fun that way. :-)
-
just chores today. A friend is coming to visit tomorrow.
-
Today I walked 7/10 of a mile. Now I'm pooped, so time for a little nap.
-
I had chemo yesterday. Did some chores today, cleaned the bathroom and vacuumed. And a little bit of walking. That's enough for now with the aches and pains I get from the Taxol. It's warming up here, so tomorrow may be a better day.
Have a great weekend!
-
curveball and rhody. Good for you. I did a bunch of walking yesterday and cleaned today. I exhausted today
-
I did my upper body exercises prescribed by my PT this morning, then did some walking when DH and I went shopping. Now time for power football watching!
-
I went to church this morning and am doing the laundry this afternoon.
-
today I went grocery shopping for a few items plus walked half a mile. Now it's nap time.
-
Hello all - hope everyone is doing OK. I ran the 5k on Sat. with my DH and two SILs - it was harder than I thought it would be, I was hotter than I thought I would be, and I am glad it is over and I'm not doing it again because my knees are still hurting. So, my running career is over, lol! On the flip side, I did sign up for the gym so I am going today - I will do an assortment of low weight exercises on my own and the elliptical for a bit. The ortho doc was right - can't run. Still on the food sensitivity diet and have lost 10 lbs. - weight is coming off slow and steady.
-
congratulations on the 5K and weight loss!
edited to add: my exercise today=walk 1/2 mile + 10 minutes gardening. I dug up a daffodil bulb out of a weedy flower bed and put it into a pot for later transplanting to a better location.
-
everybody keep moving. congrats specialk. good for you. i learned the running lesson myself years ago. so i walk fast, when i can, but i don't run.
tonight i'll be going to yin yoga. gotta keep it up. yoga is far more challenging than i ever thought it would be, but it is helping so, so much. the key is me accepting myself for whatever i can do. if i look like an idiot struggling to get off the floor, so be it. i'm getting off the floor. :-)
-
@gritgirl, I don't do yoga, but I do do stretches in the morning for my back and I too have problems getting off the floor. I don't know if I look like an idiot, but graceful I definitely am not.
I'm glad to hear the yoga is helping you.
