How vain are you?

The oracle Larry speaketh through his handmaiden this morning. Hearken ye all!
-
I'm so glad we finally have a channel for Larry/Gary! Now his words of wisdom will always be available!
-
You guys crack me up - I'm going to look.....gurgle, giggle, spurt, chortle...
-
Melissa, I tried to hearken, but think I must have too much rosemary in my ears???
-
Kay, do you have hayfever too? My allergist explained it in terms of "the straw that broke the camel's back". We ate peanut butter & peanuts as kids, but not like the kids who refused to eat anything else. She saidthat my pollen allergies at a bad time of the year PLUS the peanut butter (or Chinese food) EVERY day pushed it over the cliff, where an occasional peanut butter sandwich when nothing else was bothering me might have been no big deal.
-
Oh, Melissa - your Allergist was soooo right! On another board I belong to, we call it the "Bucket Theory"....
Let's say one day, the air quality is really bad. That's a drop in the bucket. Then the wind blows, and pollen is everywhere, especially on my clothes and in my hair. That's another drop in the bucket.... a BIG one! Then I go shopping, and the store is filled with people who have marinated themselves in perfume or aftershave. Add more drops to the bucket. It's getting full. Finally, I come home and eat dinner, but lo and behold, there were nitrites in the sausage in my "natural/organic" pizza...
And BAM! The bucket overflows, my body is flooded with histamines, and I have a full-blown allergic reaction. I could have handled perhaps any ONE of those factors, but added all together, my system just can't take any more.
Two things I learned about my allergies: 1) often times taking Alka Seltzer Gold (without aspirin) can help - it has an alkaline effect on acidic histamine; and 2) taking a Histamine 2 blocker such as Pepcid, Tagamet, or Zantac along with my Benadryl can be helpful. Benadryl and other drugs are Histamine 1 blockers; with Histamine 2 blockers, you get more of the full effect of neutralizing histamine.
And I hate the fact that we can develop allergies to things at any time of our lives! BOOO!!!

Trixie after her spa day….looking and acting like a diva!

Trixie being a diva after her spa visit today.

Of COURSE Trixie is vain, as well she should be. What a cutie!
-
and one last one….

Kay, I'm allergic to everything, not just a few specific ones and North Texas is one of the few places that has serious year-round pollen problems. Even now in mid-Winter Mountain Cedar is really high and it is a bad one that makes lots of folks really miserable.
My understanding is that peanut oil is not the problem because it does not contain the protein, but it depends on how well filtered it is. You never know if a restaurant is using a lesser grade oil that still has particulate matter in it, so you are not supposed to risk it. Also, woks are not washed between uses but wiped out, so the General Tso's chicken cooked before your "safe" order can contaminate yours.

Prior to chemo, I had no allergies. Post chemo? Several antibiotics give me hives, rash, etc. Age? Chemo? Bad luck? Who knows.
-
One of my friends developed severe penicillin allergy in her late fifties & had taken it all her life with no problems.
My doctor granddad used to tell people who protested that they never had allergies before that if they lived in Texas long enough they would.
-
Oh, Trixie is beyond precious! Talk about pampered! Exactly my kind of dog!
-
Aw, Trixie is lovely! I'm a pet-less now. I lost my dearly beloved familiar, Malcolm six months after chemo. He was nearly 19 years old and we had walked many hard paths together. I was devastated at his loss - it was so unfair to lose him so soon after chemo! - and haven't felt up to getting another pet.
As to allergies... I was very allergic to chocolate (and other things) all my life, but the chocolate allergy lasted into my adulthood. After chemo, it disappeared! I don't know why or how, nor do I care, pass the turtles. Six months ago I ate my first chocolate bar ever - a Snickers - and BOOM, Baby! Took two days for me to come down from the sugar rush. My husband told me I looked like this...
[... hearken ye all... #snerk]

Selena, ROFL!
-
giggle, selena, I know what you mean. I haven't had any sugar in so long, but my reaction is the l-o-n-g-e-s-t sleep you can imagine.
I've had respiratory allergies all my life, changing depending upon where in the world I was living, and one of the changes for me after chemotherapy was, is, eczema: 3 places, inner edges of eyebrows, sides of nose ( not as severe) and inside my ears - which is not fun, as I wear Oticon behind the ear (PURPLE) hearing aids - yes, purple, everybody knows "when I get old I shall wear purple" - loved the facial expression of my audiologist as she was saying "we can match your hair, or skin"- and I said, PURPLE PLEASE. ( too bad you cant see them unless I take them off, only the tiniest plastic wire into ear/receiver) - anyhow - ECZEMA, scaly, itchy, UGH. Cortisone liquid helps, but haven't figured out if there's a food connection, seasonal too, but not at all a bad price to pay, for being HERE, healthy and happy. Hmmhnn, wonder what larry says about eczema :-)
-
Purple hearing aids? You ROCK.

Thanks for making me smile ladies! Hubby lost his job last week. Been feeling a bit depressed and sick to my stomach. But this thread lifts my spirits every time I read it! Sorry I've been lurking since the beginning and not participating. On the bright side, stress is great for weight loss. My jeans fit perfectly again! 😉
-
Oh, Amy, what sad news. Hope the weight loss doesn't go on for long - and you put it back on celebrating good news! Happy Chocolate soon.
-
Oh, AmyinMI, how horrid! Here's to your hubby finding something new that will beat with his heart and lessen your stress. Feel free to dive in; we're an irreverent- and free-thinking bunch that love to swap beauty tips and dark humour.

I cannot wade through that other site. What doth Larry have to say so we can ignore it?
Sunny - DH has RX for Clobetasol for his eczema. I had a dermal cyst removed last year mid back and OMG it itched so bad around the edges. I had him apply the teeniest, tiniest dabs around it and relief. I know steriods are not conducive to healing but neither is scratching yourself up against a post a la a horse. (Ask me how I know this. Lol) Love the purple hearing aids. Purple is one of my fav. colors - goes well with my white hair.
AmyinMi - I don't post often but this thread does make me laugh daily. Hugs.
I've had a pretty Siamese out hunting in the front yard. Too bad he was not so diligent week b4 last. DH trapped a gopher. Cat is fat/sleek. Not sure who it belongs too. Only 8 houses on this cul-de-sac and it is rural. We do get dogs dumped. DH took a tame pair of Chi mixes - intact males - to pound last year. One had hurt leg, other one perfect. Said people were oooing/ahiing over them as he left them. Told DH he was lucky they weren't females.
-
I confess that curiosity got the better of me and I googled Larry. OMFGIN (oh-my-f*&king-gawd-in-heaven). 'Nuff said.
-
Thanks everyone! Maybe Larry (Gary) has some words of wisdom for me?! LMAO! Probably not, he's only a god in health care. Hahaha!
-
Malcolm's pic made me smile....a cutie.
Amy - you DH will find a job. Please try not to stress out!
Cannot bring myself to look at the schizo writings of Larry....a true wacko.
Just returned from the Mac makeup counter...thought if you Selena. Wild and tame colors. I bought the tame. Too old (47) for the wild.
-
selena - ya mean you don't want to take medical advice from someone who "trained" as a short order cook? Haven't gone to da website, guess I better if it's dat funny.
