Fun facts about Greta vanSusteren - she is from Appleton, Wisconsin (birthplace of Joe McCarthy).  Her father was an elected judge (not a very good one, by all accounts) and he owned part interest in a "gentlemen's" club (i.e., strip club) just outside the city limits.  Joe McCarthy was best man at Urban van Susteren's wedding and the two were bestest buds.  I won't watch Faux Noise so I don't see her squint.

RL - tee, hee...it's not GS eyes, they ARE weird, but that she "tawks" out of the side of her mouth, very strange.

I read that same site yorkie, I don't watch Maher, but this was this morning, and I am SURE it was "fresh paint" she was trying to hide with this hysterically funny curly short "hair doooooooo" it came way down nearly to the outer edges of her eyes, which were at about 90 degrees agnles to the side of the bottom of the eye...really, Joan Rivers looked natural compared to what I saw on ABC this am....

Chick....the note was lovely and now I'm hoping it wasn't anything I said.  Hmmm, I always enjoyed watching the repartee between Matlin and Carville......never sure how much was put on but they always seemed an odd pair-up to me.  I admit, I don't know much about pair-ups though...they may have been perfection personified.

Haven't watched much news the past day and a half.....I did see that Christie is a little farther into the muck and mire which I expected, but even then it is getting to feel never-ending.  I'd like to get over some of the quibbling, and go straight to facts.  Only thing is......ya, the New Joisey politicians and their tactics.  They can't be straight-forward and people will be protected.  Still, I think the contender roster on the right is pretty abysmal.  Most of the ones I saw could I think be bumped off with little effort at all.

Anyway -- loved the Red Cardinals, Blue.  They are the Illinois State Bird.

I guess I was feeling all happy but the thread went back to not happy politics so my post seemed out of place. Maybe we should all start finding the Wendy Davis' and the Gabby Giffords, wish I'd known about her sooner, and the good guys and cheering them on to wherever they go.  Buy their t shirts and aggravate the grumpies.  The bad guys will just keep being bad until we scream loud enough about the brilliant good ones.

Some happy mojo again.  Winter is on the wane here, I know it isn't elsewhere, but I'm ready for sunshine. Had a lot today.

I wanted to start potting plants, silly me, the trucks haven't even brought potting soil to Walmart.

And I had Toasted Almond Chocolate ice cream tonight !

while we are at it, I would love it if some of you would familiarize yourself with the Michael Morton case out of Williamson County, Tx.  Where I now reside. Convicted by two fathead egos 30 years ago of killing his wife for the most perverted reason they could come up with and kept in jail until Barry Scheck and his project finally him out.

That story is sordid enough but the outcome is pure pleasure. The County District Atty fought any attempt to open up the case.   He was so wrong and so arrogant about it.  Election time and a brilliant local attorney named Jana Duty, Democrat, dared to run against this entrenched Rick Perry acolyte. I was so, so on pins and needles and praying the citizens would get it and she would win.

Jana Duty won!  Even the mostly republican voters here saw the horror of this case and Bradley's obfuscation was sickening. The judge was defrocked.  The sheriff is named Boutwell if you want to read his fall from hero to jerk. But he died decades ago.

I was so elated that I think I actually believe if people know they will do the right thing.

Keep Ms Duty's name in the back of your head and let's see where she goes some day. She really riled the DA's office and cleaned house. I think she'll seek a higher office someday.

My time on earth is limited from seeing what I'd like to see happen over the next 25-50 years but I believe its in the hands of brilliant and damn tough women.  Let's see what the women moving up through the ranks in the military do when they emerge to seek their future.  Leadership and integrity.

I'm heartened.  I know its uphill but the more history I read I also know nothing stays the same.

Oh, Chicky, none of your posts are out of place!  I for one LOVED seeing your happy post ... It is good to see such sunshine in the winter gloom.  I had been thinking about you for a few days and was just going to ask about you when *poof!* you appeared.  I was so happy to see you!

So please, post whatever things that move you, happy or political .... Or happy and political .... Or crabby and in need of some sorts.  This is the place we come to do that.  And Kad2Kar, I am so happy to see you here, too!

As long as we are talking women.....Elizabeth Warren does a darn good job.  Does a very fine job of getting lots of "good truths" out there.  Something you said Chickadee:

"I was so elated that I think I actually believe if people know they will do the right thing."

I do think if you are told how something REALLY is minus wavy glass, embellishments or downright un-truths you will arrive at great decisions.  I guess I'm thinking in every arena, no matter what, make the playing field fair first with the truth.  Sadly at some point far too many contests of any variety have stooped to behaviors far from the ethical levels that should be consistent daily fare.  It would be nice to have things change for the better in that direction.

Hope to have that good old sunshine back in the morning, but not sure of that.  We  warmed fairly nice today and I'm anxious for a couple more good days.  I know winter is far enough from not over yet that most anything could happen, but I need a little sun to bloom properly.

Off to do some reading.  See you all later.

Mary & Gumby ... you guys crack me up.  My cutie pie got spanked last night.  I felt bad for him, but he's young and he has lots of time to get even better.  I love Peyton .. so we're going to have another good game against the Hawks in two weeks!  Wish we could all be together and cheer our respective teams on!

I heard from Sunny210 and she was recently in the hospital in Denver for lung issues.  She said she'll be back to post just as soon as she is up to it.  Please keep her in your thoughts.  She's a real sweetheart.

Somehow I managed to pick up a cold last night.  Just sitting there enjoying the game and wham ... next thing I know the sneezing starts ... and then I'm sick.  Don't know where I picked this up.  I don't go anywhere except walmart and I usually keep my gloves on when I'm in the store.

Hope everyone has a really good Martin Luther King Day!

    hugs,

    Bren

OMG .. the weather has lots it's mind.  Going to be in the upper 50's today and tomorrow a high of 33 with a 70% chance of snow.  Yikes.  And tomorrow is the day I have to drive north to Roanoke .. they get hit harder than we do.  I don't think this is global warming ... more of a global insanity.

    hugs,

Big sigh !!!! Sun not too bright today and due to get a couple more inches snow tonight....well, I knew Old' Man Winter wasn't through with us yet, but geez....right after I said more sun.  Well, at least a dry day with muted sun.  Better than many alternatives.

I think I am fortunate ( and knocking on wood here rather furiously ) but I haven't had a cold since we moved back home this past 16 years.  I sure hope that great trend continues.  Bren sure hope you can work yours off quickly.  I do eat fresh fruit along with trying to get a small glass of OJ most days.

Rather boring news on this morning.  A wonder I didn't come in here early.  I do think we all deserve to have answers, but I think I'd rather have a rundown by week or something.  The daily tid-bits  are tiresome and I lose some interest.  We all need to know but the opinionated  minutiae along the way just drags things out and clouds facts to a degree.

Had a call from my PCP first thing this morning - tumour markers up for first time in four years, mamo and u/s show new mass growing in left breast - ct scan results not available yet - onc appointment on 27th - believe treatment will be faslodex (they ordered it for me months ago "in case") - not a happy start to the week for sure but at least I feel fine right now and that's good enough for me. S.

Oh Sandy ... I hate hearing such news.  My heart just goes out to you.  What a crappy way to start the week.  Please let us know what the CT results are when they come in.  I hope Faslodex kicks some cancer ass.  Everything I've read about it, and what Brenda told me, was to make sure they warm up the syringes before giving the injections.

I'm glad you feel fine ... hope you continue to as well.

    love you,

    Bren

    S. Here's to tumor markers being wrong? And fingers crossed for very very small treatable on 1/27.  Prayers too.

Chickadee, so good to see you, and LOVE reading good news.  Will also check into TX story you refer to.  Our legal system needs a LOT of help, and an Innocence Project in every state, FUNDED, and working.

Alas, my Patriots will have to wait til next year to go for the 4th Ring as a "team" - still lov'em, and the Spirit they bring to Boston.  Especially this year.
